Anyone want to ride my bike? DC to NJ to DC
« on: July 28, 2007, 10:33:13 PM »
If anyone is around the DC/VA/MD area.  I'm going to take delivery of the bike (2002 Yamaha Warrior).

thread: http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=24701.0

So it's near Mannsquan, NJ and I'm in Washington DC.

I'm going to drive there, with my car (manual no A/C but you can smoke in it if you want), put the spare parts in the trunk.

Ride it back with me, we'll take turns on the bike.

Then I'll drop you off in the MD/VA/DC area and that's that.

Bonus: if you good at spotting flaws in a used bike.

Hey Cool, do a search for English movers, they're great guys and moved a bike
from California to Virginia for me for $500.

Nice bike!!!!

Cheapest way is to ride it. Ain't that what they are for?! $50 for gas and a great day plus an excellent adventure. No way I'd do otherwise.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Sleep on the Greyhound up (that'll make some memories- trust me), ride the bike back.  That's an easy day, even stopping a lot for stretches and water.

I bought my CB750K4 off Ebay in April 2001. It was in Boone, NC and I was in Boston. I flew down to Raleigh, the owner picked me up, drove me 3 hrs to the bike and I jumped on and rode it 900 miles back to Boston over 2 days.

In 2003, I bought another K4 in DC. Same thing - flew down to Dulles, and rode bike back to Boston next day (440 miles).

So my advice - go there by bus, plane whatever....but ride it back. Thats what bikes are for.

cheers
Andy

I like Uncle Ernie's idea, sounds a great adventure and probably also the cheapest, just think what you could do with those saved $. Also the thought of someone else riding my bike fills me with dread  :o

I'd ride it for you, but I'm quite a ways from West Chester. I'm in Cleveland. Looks like fun tho.

I used to take the Greyhound quite a bit.  Depending on your fellow passengers, don't always count on sleeping...for 12 hours I kept one eye on the guy carrying the chainsaw.  Didn't put it under the bus with the luggage...didn't have a carrying case, guy just hops on a bus with a chainsaw...the thing is nobody seemed to mind.  I guess it is an adventure.

Nice bike by the way.

OMG OMG OMG

I'm an idiot.  There was 1 hour and 45 minutes left and the highest bidder was $5500.  I was like no problem, I'll just slip in and bid the reserve ($8000).  But then I felt really sleepy so I took a nap and set the alarm.

I woke up 1 hour later and went down stairs to get a bag of Doritos but Batman Begins was on cable so I watched that and time just fast forwarded.  I ran up stairs to my computer and the auction was over at $8000!  Drat, I would have paid the Buy it Now of $9000.

Crap, that's what I get for trying to save $1000.  I had the cash ready and everything.  Greyhouse one way was like $45. Makes a grown man cry. :'(   I need to suck on my mom's titty.

So I bought the bike for $6625.  No one around the DC area will help me pick it up?  You ride the bike and I drive my car there and back we'll take turns...Holla

Dude, I'd do it if it weren't for my back.  I just can't do long distances like that.  I gotta stop every 35-50 miles.  And no time either.  It's a shame, I'm only over in McLean!

Geebus, you guys are a bunch of sheila's! Send me a plane ticket and I'm there! Cheers, Terry. :D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Today is the big Day the next will be Tuesday , Wednedsay, Thursday.  It look ok outside, i.e., not raining.

Your back pain is not a problem, I have Excedrine Back & Body.  This stuff is great.  Also we'll take plenty of breaks and switch vehicles all the time.  If every 50 miles, that means 4-5 breaks on the way back.  I'm cool.

I'll be honest, it your a short person, it would stretch you out a bit.  But maybe, that would be GOOD for your back.

I'm just excited about picking this up.

Note: the Orient Express NOS system is not filled but you can fantasize having an air clutch.

I've got a lot going on right now, but I'll see what I can do.  Tue/Wed is out, as well as today, so Thurs is our best shot.  I'll know by Monday.  Let's hope Bob Ryan(local weatherman for you non local types) can keep the clouds away.

And Terry.  There's a reason I only ride a 350F.  Due to an auto accident(was rearended at a stop light in '91) I've been left with nerve damage down my right leg.  I've worked my way back up the displacement ladder, but I still have some bad days.  So, any more sheila comments, and I'll have to start some sheep comments back at ya!

Hmmnn, well I squashed two discs and cracked two vertebrae military parachuting and I'll have physiotherapy once or twice a week for the rest of my life for that, I've broken all my ribs at least once, my collar bone, wrist, ankle, 3 fingers and two toes, and my nose, (at least 3 times) not to mention internal injuries and a couple of operations, so as I'm still riding, I really can't be all that sympathetic, ha ha!

Over my short life I've found that it's really just a case of "mind over matter", if you want to ride again, then you will. No point feeling sorry for yourself, cos no-one else does. That bike looks like a beast, so why would you NOT want to ride it? Cheers, Terry. (sheep shagging philosopher)  ;D

Terry:  Well it wasn't the pain that did me in, it was the weakness in my right leg!  It was the strangest thing, but for the first 4 to 5 years, my right leg had a definite weakness.  Had just gotten a GL1000 to restore and when the accident happened, I ended up selling it cause I thought I'd never be able to hold up that much bike again,  The weakness finally went away, and I started out small and worked my way back up.  Now all I have to deal with is the pain, but I do get the best parking places!  And one day I will have another Wing!

CoolCat:  The bike does look way cool, but I am not going to be able to help you out.  I was reminded of something that will not allow me to be away for even a day trip.  I'm thinking the UHaul idea is your best bet.  Just make sure it has brakes.  The last time I rented one, I had to refuse 2 trucks before I found one with brakes!!!
