Are all brakes created equal?
« on: August 06, 2007, 05:30:07 PM »
In the last 3 days I have purchased every item needed for a dual disk set up AND I purchased a set of polished forks.  The more I think about it though, the more I think I may need to unload the forks.

My bike is a 73, The front end is said to be from a 71 and the new forks are from a 77.  I don't believe the caliper brackets are the same BUT do they use the same caliper?  If so I need another bracket, if not does anyone need some polished 77 forks?

CB750 Front brake brackets as follows..........

1969-Mid 1972 K0,1,2 early

1972 late K2 late,3,4,5,6

1977-78 nice brackets with bolts facing out

Maybe you can mix-match K 3,4,5,6,7,8 but definitely not K0,1 with 2,3,4,5

Awesome...  that means I need to take pictures, or wait for the parts to arrive.

As Sandcast states with some additional comments
The 75F/76F1 caliper and arm are the same as the 77K7/78K8. The F2/F3 are different altogether.
The K0-K2 caliper is the same as the K2-K6, but the arm/bracket is different as the fork mount arrangement is different. Honda changed the forks in 73 to a different style of fender and caliper bracket mounting. At the same time they changed the forks to eliminate the bush in the top of the lower fork leg and hence the tubes run directly in the lower sliders.
The late K2-K6 caliper and arm/bracket will fit on an F/F1/K7/K8, but you need to use the K2-K6 caliper arm together with the K0-K6 caliper.
The 77 forks will need to have the later K2-K6 brackets, and then you can use the K0-K6 calipers OK.
You did not say what calipers you have in mind, but if you have the early type I would use the 77 forks and buy two K2-K6 brackets.
