750 K8 Vacuum balance with fixed sliders?
« on: August 06, 2007, 02:54:24 AM »
After spending a very enjoyable evening reading the FAQ sections and seeking info on syncing my 750 K8 carbs.
I assume since these have fixed sliders in one position how is this possible? I have a fancy set of analog vacuum gauges that I was hoping to try, but since I found little in the FAQ section on the K8 carbs.

Ye, I was hoping to slither in through the FAQ section, obtain the knowledge and slip out unnoticed before anyone noticed I was a chimpanzee with a few wrenches and a toothy grin.

However, I did learn from the FAQ section about switching the K8 drain tubes to clear for easy float level checks on the fly and that is one cool trick!

So...maybe these fancy analog vacuum gauges won't work on my long dead K8 that I have been secretly laboring on for what seems like weeks. Could I be yet again wrong?

Only #2 is fixed; the others are adjusted to it.  If you remove the upper covers you'll see the locknut and adjuster screw on 1, 3, and 4.

Hope these pictures help

Pic 1 is the #2 Carb that is fixed

Pic 2 is what 1,3 and 4 looks like after taking the cap off.

Pic 3 is where you attach your vacuum hoses.

Thanks for that. When I had the carbs on the bench I did eyeball the synch and it seems to be running pretty good right now. But I do want to make it as perfect as I can. I do live at 6500 ft. elevation so I want to get em as close as possible. Again thanks for the pics!

I have been thinking about going to Hondamans electronic ignition, and I haven't quite decided yet. I love the "old school" aspects of the current design, but his system sounds like a cool thing.

I have the same bike avoided doing that job like the plague for years, just did the synch and the idle is much smoother. Since we have a solid linkage that opens all carbs, you may not see that much improvement at higher throttle opens as the older bike will with four cables. You have great pics to work with.
