Its currently about 105 with the heat index near Washington DC... so i'm being "lazy" with the project. My garage is heated but not cooled
I'm currently creating a list of supplies i know i will need before hand.
the bike is currently sitting on just a frame/motor, handle bar, forks, front tire. Step one is going to be to get a new digital camera since mine just took a crap on me last night when i went to take the first pics.
such is life.
Current plans for the "body" work = white primer (1), white base (1) to keep the over color bright, orange paint (3), red candy clear (3), clear coat (4)........... i'm hoping this layering can give me a really deep redish orange.
the frame is going to be sanded down by hand, reweld any welds i dont currently "like," and then its going to be painted gloss black. The original "side" plastics will not be used with my project. I know i have ONE side lol... but most likely i'll machine some aluminum or titanium plates where they were. I'm also looking to replace every bolt on the bike with a titanium bolt... we'll see how well my resource for those parts can find them!
I'm currently trying to figure out if i am going to make my own rearsets or buy/find some... what exactly i want to do (within budget) to the motor and what kind of crazy custom stuff i can fab for it in my garage... and go through all the boxes of parts to figure out if i'm missing peices (like front brakes!).
I'm not much on polishing things and making it shiny. And with the current state of the exhaust pipes i have for it (4 to 4)... I'll most likely be using them to make a custom "header" with either an underbelly turn down (loud) or in the spirit of the modern bike... make a shorty out the side
when tail and fairings are ordered i'll start prepping them for paint... and once i get the motor guru's over we'll be ripping apart the three motors to figure out whats going on. I'm not sure if i can afford to do the big bore or if i'm going to try some other "things" to make it a personalized little mad motor.
In tradition of Madison Motorsports motors... the valve cover will be painted "universal gold." I'm sure i'll have to incorperate some other things to make it flow on the bike... but all in due time!
I hope that keeps your attention until i can get things rolling and have my "build" thread officially off the ground.
