It's been a long time since I lived there... can't go wrong by staying along the coast. The redwoods are like going to church. The salmon jerky in Oregon is great. Portland is a VERY pretty town. The people there are so friendly I got paranoid the first time. Seattle area has more coffee and bakeries than anyplace on earth. Worth hanging around long enough to gain 3 pounds. Plus it is a haven for vintage.antique bikes, cars, and... TRACTORS. They love 'em there. Try to go 120 through Yosemite. I promise it will bring tears to your eyes. SanFrancisco has more bars and restaurants probably than any other city in the world. Worth hanging around long enough to gain 10 lbs. The best place for the best mocha is Farley's in Potrero Hill (20th & Mississippi?). Esp on the weekends it is a haven for every kind of motorcycle imaginable; Panther, Nimbus, BSA singles and twins, BMWs and Moto Guzzis of every age, Vincent, Norton, Harley, Honda. Coming from the North into Pt Reyes is the Saloon- great old picture of a naked lady with a swan over the bar and they have the best Amaretto coffee with real whipped cream. Great ride from the into SF- that road is the Sunday Morning Ride. There are great views all over SF, but the best is riding over the upper deck of the Bay Bridge from Berkeley/Oakland into SF. If you go on down to LA, take 5 if you need to make time, but it's hot and straight. Stop for water a lot. If not in any hurry, it's still best to stay along the coast on Hwy 1. Wish I could go.
