Weld on/Bolt on hardtails ??
« on: August 07, 2007, 12:29:27 PM »
Just wondering  if anyone had made/purchased/came across a weld-on/bolt on Hardtial for the CB bikes ? I think I am gonna hardtail the CB360 project, and I would much rather buy something then have to make it from scratch (not that I cant do it)..

Anyone ?

Let me give you my two cents. I've seen naked bikes converted into hardtails in eBay and they look simply ugly in my opinion. The rear shocks fits like a glove in the CB frame design, while a welded strut is something ugly and makes for a harsh ride. If you want to get rid of the shocks, the best option is a hidden shock like in the modern bikes.

The chopper bikes are a different thing. The frame has a distinctive tube angle so the rear end, if rigid, gives a better look than the twin shocks. I still prefer the softails for the sake of the ride, but the hidden shock in a chopper bike is a great compromise between looks and performance.

Raul,

I appreciate your opinion, But I am gonna do what I wanna do to this little bike.
I have rode my buddies hardtail bikes with 2'' spring solo seats and they ride as good as a lowered CB does. And for a bike I am gonna blast around town, I can deal with it..

I've seen a few kits come across Ebay.  bwchoppers.com also has a kit for $150 or will weld it for you for $320.  Loking at 2-6 weeks to be shipped though.

Don't put a hardtail on that bike.  You'll ruin it.  Just my opinion.

Heres a cool CB360 a guy over on JockeyJournal.com had......believe it was an old aftermarket frame. I found a frame just like it over on Hondachoppers.com......but the guy wanted way too much for it.

Heres the link to the thread on JJ's:

Keep an eye out on ebay....i've seen a few nice ones go for cheap.

the problem with add on hardtails be it for a harley or whatever is:the hardtail section is too short and makes the ass end angle down too much.if you can find one that is long enough to gradually let the ass end down, then that sucker will look good.carry on joe.

Who knew this was gonna be such a "heated" thread ? ;D
I def. wanna make the next project a hardtail. I started my motorcycle career on a hardtail bike and you just cant beat the looks. I might just adapt a bolt on triumph hardtail section I have to the CB (cant be too hard), and weld it up. I would be all about buying an aftermarket frame but don't wanna dump the cash into this thing.

My 2 cents...

cyclexchange.net makes hardtail frames.

A bit on the expensive side $799 but i like the way they look.

Short of doing it yourself, or using a different frame, I think olds-cool mentioned the only place I know of...

Many a buyer has been disappointed with the quality of bwchoppers work. I have heard that it improved, but buyer beware. He's mostly geared toward the XS650 if I remember right.

I've also heard good & bad about BWchoppers.  I say buyer beware.  Do whatever you can to CYOA.  I love the cycle exchange frames and at $800, they are a great deal.  I've only seen them there for the 750 though.  Does anyone know if they will adapt one to fit another motor, like say my 500?
