Motorcyclist Cabin
« on: August 10, 2007, 04:37:14 AM »
The wife and are planning to build a small cabin, probably and A frame deal
at the back end of our property. We have a State maintained gravel road
entrance down there though we're the only house on our road.
We're doing it just because it so peaceful back there and we can head back
there to chill when we want.

I thought we could also rent it a few times each season to traveling motorcyclist.

It will have few amenities but I plan on running water with a cowboy shower
of some sort. A black tank gravity feeding the shower should give warm water.
It may have an out house but with a real toilet and septic system,
or it may be a double hole-r over a pit ;D ;D

We're within 7 miles of the parkway, great twisties all around, and
Floyd County has some great sites and sounds.

Do yourself (and all who stay there).  Spring for the real toilet and septic.

And your stealing my idea.  I have a small piece of Front Royal that is begging for a cabin.  15 minutes from Skyline Drive.  Some day....

Nothing cements a relationship like a double hole-r. ;D

Keep us posted with some pics of course.

Front Royal you say? Home of Skyline Caverns?  ;) My dad's family is from that area - Winchester actually. Beautiful area.

Yeah, I agree about the real toilet. Please!  ;D ;D ;D

So I'm guess y'all think the toilet ought to be in the house,
or can it be a real one that you have to walk out too? ;D ;D

No, a real toilet by itself is fine. No house or walls needed. And as long as there are trees nearby, you won't need paper.  ;) :o ;D

Those blue lagoon things are worse than a real out house.

Speaking of 2 hole-rs, I cut some timber on a girls camp
a few years back. This was a camp for city slicker girls!

It had a 4 hole-r out house and several cabins in a row.

I guess those city slicker girls were tougher than some of you fellows ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
(Oh, it did have toilet paper ;) or was that an old sears and roebuck catalog?)

Thats a great idea RM.  An overnight MC cabin on the back 40 that you and Mama can also use as a spontaneous honeymoon suite.  And think of the income tax write-offs :D
An A-frame is quick to build and encloses a space with an economy of materials and would be a good choice.  Take a look at this cabin - it looks comfortable and it would be cheap and easy to build. You know where to find trees, maybe you have a neighbor with a mill or need an excuse to get one. Hey, there's a possible use for Lada power. ;) :D      Dave

Up in the Lakes,
You have pictured exactly what we have in mind. We have a cool shady spot down by the round pens.
Great view from the cabin porch. Windows at both ends and it would be cool even in this heat!
Add an overhanging roof line and it becomes enclosed motorcycle parking on one side,
and a tack room on the other. No phones, no electricity (ok maybe a little solar power) what could be better?

Now to find some suitable logs ;) ;) ;)
