missing weight mark
« on: July 08, 2005, 07:09:46 PM »
evening all,

I'm in the middle of a tire change, and can't find the weight mark on the front tire. there is a stamped "07" over one of the six raised "T.W.I"  spread equally around the tire's circumference. I'm not inclined to think that this is the weight mark, because the mark on the rear tire is a light stamped mark that looks very different from this.

suggestions?

The 07 is probably an inspection stamp. Are they tubeless-type tires? Someone might have a different experience, but I've found that usually only motorcycle tires specifically labeled "TUBE TYPE" have the balance mark on them. All of the "TUBELESS" ones I've seen don't have it. I just had them balanced later.

this one is a tubeless tire, but I'm installing a tube. I'll balance it when I'm done.

thanks for the reply,

If we are talking about the mark on the sidewall indicating the light spot, it may vary by manufacturer, but this past winter I installed a pair of tubeless Dunlops (with tubes of course) and they had a yellow spot painted/daubed on the sidewalls indicating the light spot to be aligned with the valve stem.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.
