Chain Maintenence?
« on: August 12, 2007, 12:13:59 pm »
Hey, just put a new chain on my bike and was wondering at what intervals I should oil/grease the chain, what kind of chain oil/grease is good, and what intervals I should expect to tighten the chain at?  I've got about 400 miles on it now, and have not had to adjust it even for the initial stretch I expected.  It's a DID O-ring if it makes any difference.

Unless you really flog your bike those o-ring chains don't need adjusting often, but check it often and adjust it when it needs it. When I fiqure it needs it I always lube my chain when I return from a ride and the chain is warm and I like chain wax, it is cleaner than other lubes and used every two or three hundred miles does the job. A little lube more often is probably better than half a can once a summer! Two of my bikes o-ring chains have around ten thousand miles and hardly any slack on the back sprocket.

Chain Wax? Is that a brand or just a type of chain lube?

Chain Wax is a term. There are many different brands around.

This is an excellent chain wax:

And here's another one:
