New bloke UK/Spain
« on: August 14, 2007, 01:08:47 PM »
I've already posted a couple of pleas for help in the tech section but thought i should introduce myself properly.

I'm back in Worcestershire (UK) for the summer and bought the '77f2 (blind on a whim) for summer transport and to ride back to Spain in September.
Mechanical skills were confined to oil and plug changes pre-purchase but so far i've bodged my way through valve adjusting, new points, coils and HT leads, setting the timing and balancing the carbs. I've finally discovered the sump plug oil leak is due to a cracked thread so the oil pan is now off and being sent for welding/retapping by a friend of my stepfather's (who's spent the summer in the garage effing and blinding with me while i abuse his tools).
It's been pretty slow progress but i'm still optimistic i'll be on a ferry to france with a tent on the back in a couple of weeks.
Current nagging worry is a knocking/pulsing felt through the pegs with engine under light load..

Anyway, thanks for all the help
Regards
Ian

Welcome aboard.  Sounds like you are well on your way to learning about your machine and how to wrench on it.

In another thread, someone thought that a knock that is felt and not heard could be the primary chain in the engine.  I am not sure.

Welcome from the UK "Chapter"

Take a look at www.sohc.co.uk as some of us Brits hang out there too.
