Anyone familiar with a 71 CB175?
« on: August 07, 2007, 05:42:33 PM »
I'm picking up a CB175 for free. Needs a tank and seat for sure. Already have a line on both. I'm looking for carb and petcock rebuild kits. And any information at all I can find on them. Thanks for any help.

I've got two '70 CB175 (projects), pretty much identical to the '71 I believe.  I have the service manual & parts manuals electronically.  Also, check out the HondaTwins forums --> www.hondatwins.com

I forgot, they're all uploaded here --> http://hondatwins.com/resources.html

   Watch out for the Keyster carb kits found all over E-bay and elsewhere. The jet needles are usually the wrong size diameter and will cause running issues. Also, the float bowl gaskets are made of too wide of material, and once installed will cause interference issues with the floats. The guys racing CB160s have run into a lot of the issues common to these bikes and would be a good info. resource for you. A number of us "Big Boned" racers are running 175s as a form of handicapping.
  The F-160 Yahoo group is here-- http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/F-160/

   Below are my wife's daily commuter and my roadracer. Both are 71 CL175s.

That's the first cafe racer I've ever really seen and wanted. That's just sick! You're wifes commuter looks nice as well.

Do either of you know if there are any major differences amongst the model years? I can't find anything indicating they are and I just picked up a wiring harness off a 72 from ebay. Just in case the old one isn't any good, I hope it will just plug right up.

I joined the F-160 group but I really don't know how similar they are or if I'd be in the way asking about the 175.

Starion,
    Thanks for the compliments. The wife's bike was a $75 Craigslist find. The entire bike had been disassembled and every last nut and bolt had been bagged and tagged. All I had to do was clean and assemble the chassis and paint the bodywork. The motor was intact but the owner said "It was puking oil out of every seal and gasket and is probably junk." A new tach drive seal cured the oil leaking problem.
   My red racebike was found as a rolling chassis with a stuck motor rusting away under a pine tree. It was another Craigslist find for $35.

  While I'm not positive, I believe your wiring harnesses should be the same. All the literature I've seen shows all years of CB175s to have the same wiring diagram. I'd bet that the plug connectors are the same. Here's a link to some wiring diagrams if you don't already have one. The 175s are half way down the page. http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/MCwiring.php#class

  Don't worry about posting 175 questions to the F-160 Yahoo list. There are a number of us running CB/CL175s and even a couple CB200s. One of us will have an answer for you.

here's my cl175... it was done but not now as i've decided to extend that tank so i'm buying another cb200 tank to add another 8-10". it's oil cooled,punched out a bit, rearsets,clipons  and it's a hoot to ride
