Heres outlaws newest project...81 Kawasaki GPz550
« on: September 07, 2007, 10:45:53 PM »
As has been mentioned in a couple other threads and has been noted in my sig instead of the XS1100 i was about to buy that got sold behind my back i wound up making a deal on this bike instead. it is a 1981 Kawasaki GPz550. Basicly from what i have read about the bike thus far it is basicly a hot rodded KZ550 that got hotter cams along with high compression pistions. as well as a revised position on the pegs and pedals. This example is a lil rough as you can see and has been further modified with the addition of a supertrapp header and 4 into 1 exhaust. The main things it needs right now are both tach and speedo cables..along with fork seals and rear shocks. As well as some repairs to the charging system. In the order im doing things the Interceptor (aka project Shadow) will be recieving some repairs first then this bike will get the attention it deserves.

Basic plans involve changing the signal lights for smaller ones..possably the LP units on the yellow Interceptor on the rear and i will get ahold of a pair of matching ones up front of course. As well as removing the rear grab bar..havent decided if the bike will be getting its quarter fairing back or yet...that detail alone will determine what will be used as signal lights on the bike because if it isnt small LP oval lights it may be the same ones being used on the interceptor with rubber spacers to make sure they clear the fairing. Essentially this bike will be semi restored and ridden while the Interceptor and the GS1100G will recieve the complete overhauls...

Now on to pics...

Perhaps theres a slim chance this bike may become a track day weapon...if not...Thats what the Yellow Interceptor may become. I have thought about the idea of rebuilding the yellow bike into a full out race replica bike to use on track days...with some upgrades over the original bikes of course. This includes removing all the lights..or .perhaps adding some projector fog lights mounted ducati 999 style. Perhaps a 916 tail to go with it in place of the stock honda tail...but all those details are best saved for another thread if such a beast comes to life. as for this lil bike im going to have to see if it will be a good bike for me first..Till i ride it im kinda unsure if its got enough power for a rider my size..but then again i have been told it pulls harder then my interceptor so....i guess i will see..

I have a GPZ 750 parts bike. If you need anything just PM me.
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.
