I've used some stuff that I bought at WalMart or the auto parts store.  Not sure which.  It comes in a yellow tube and is clear.  It's listed as "gas tank sealer" or something like that.  It seems to work pretty well if you let it set up for 24 hours or so before introducing gas into the tank.

Don't know how bad you need it, but in an emergency you can use bar soap, the one used for clothes washing.

Knead a small ball of it like putty and seal the tank. Will last for years.

Permatex makes a gas tank repair putty that is a 2-part epoxy. It comes in a 5-inch stick that you break off what you need, knead it together and then apply it to the tank. It adheres well to aluminum and steel. (I used it once to repair a damaged fuel petcock).

Autozone usually carries a wide range of Permatex products.

almost every radiator shop across the country carry some form or another of the popular gas tank sealers. the one I used to work at stocked both kreem and redkote (redkote is much better).

How about a little more info...what exactly are you trying to seal?

I ask because just sealing a pin hole leak from the outside is a stop gap measure at best.

Pin holes develope from the inside out.

Generally in the back bottom part of tanks..where water and other contaminates sit...until they rust thru and create a leak.

Best way I have found is to weld them up with a mig or tig welder and then clean, acid etch, and reseal the tank.

I recommend POR-15 as the internal sealer.

Done right its never a problem again.

Epoxy sealing from the outside? works sometimes, and sometimes not...might hold a day, a month or a year...but generally not a hell of a long time...

Just my two cents.

Pin holes can be soldered. I have done it with great success. Of course without treating the inside with something like POR-15 or rustbuster it is not a long lasting solution

If you are talking pin holes, there could be some you can't see just yet. If you have some now, you might want to consider one of the acid etching solutions (which is one of the POR-15 kit steps) for the interior to reveal any others that are about to break through so they can be addressed before you seal the tank.
