Oh joy! A new toy! updated with pix
« on: July 08, 2007, 02:33:11 AM »
Howdy folks. Greetings from Central Oregon.
Coulda, shoulda, woulda...
This bike was for sale last year and I didn't grab it fast enough.
PO1, a nice lady who took care of it, had found 2-wheel travel more comfy on back seat of boyfriend's H-D bagger.
PO2 bought it and gave it to #@%& city punk grandkids. (um... thanks?)(not a dirt bike or crotchrocket - not a Harley = not interested)
PO2 repo'd it a couple weeks ago after it sat out in the rain all winter and had started collecting other debris. PO2 had tank and carbs washed out and points cleaned to make it run.
I rode it around a bit and gave him the $550 that he had paid PO1. 17,200 miles on the odo.
The paper includes: clear title, '05 reg., the warranty booklet, Clymer book, and a receipt from Spring '04 where PO1 paid $150 to do the seat.
It looks like the tires got changed around then as well.
I changed the oil & filter and screwed in a fresh set of plugs. Valve clearance and t/c tensioner adjustments to follow.
Still may have carb issues(jetting?) as it starts on first kick with no choke.
Ins. and fresh tags will be a priority. I'll get some better pix when I can get it out into some scenery.
Happy trails, Mark

Thank you! .... And the white even matches my eggshell pretty well, too.

Ahh, I see you noticed the shop fixture. Never was much of a Pontiac guy, but if a genuine numbers-matching '70 T/A 455 4-speed doesn't do anything at all for you then you're probably dead... or a commie.

Oh, just one more thing.....
I will probably think of the 'bird every time I see one of those vehicle-for-sale ads where the owner claims "over $XXX,XXX invested"...
The guy lives in Hawaii or somewhere... orders parts from mainland vendors... shipped to him for a feely session... then back over here to go on the car. 2nd Day Air both ways. Every $20 part has $80 in freight?????
Gave up trying to figure it out years ago.

Well... dang.
Got the beast all legal and went for a ride. Runs pretty good but still needs the rest of that major tune-up.
Needs some new rubbers for the G_DD@#% SIDE COVERS! Left one blew off out on the highway. Darn thing landed off on the right shoulder. Somehow didn't get run over.

They don't use wire on hay bales anymore.
Plenty of twine lying around though.

Happy trails.

Rubbers? I'd say the red rope/twine has its own character. ;-) Actually, the problem with the sidecovers is usually that the rubber gets hard and the sidecover won't come off, leading to a cracked cover or cover peg when you need to remove them. Is the sidecover missing one of its (three) pegs?

...or both.

When I was in the Navy, years ago, I had a buddy with a T/A like that. His might have been a '71, but it was sweet. I bought a '69 Firebird from him that needed some engine work but never got to it. Sold it for $100 profit though. Someday I'll have another.

Anyway, welcome!

About time for an update..
Haven't lost any more parts lately. Identified the aftermarket seat - by Hang Two of Sylmar,CA.
Changed points - set timing. One set of points was found to be bent.. yes bent.
Tried the tensioner adjust but it didn't seem to change the sound of the thing.
Ordered up some carb kits but haven't gone there yet.

As promised, pix with scenery:
White Rice at Smith Rock State Park..

.. and on the way home. Monkey Face in the background.

Happy trails.
