Topic: Any Input On The Weight Of a CB350 Motor, NOW INCLUDES ALL HONDA MOTORS?

        I've got a CB 350 twin motor to get shipped to me from somewhere around Minneapolis and I need to know the approximate weight of it. Any body got a clue about that? Greg (ohiocaferacer), Kyle (CBGBs), Seaweb, anybody?

Bill I'm pretty sure that its about 150-200 pounds. Could be in the 100-150 range too. I can lug it myself from one end of the garage to the other, but it was way easier with two people. I suppose if I could find a scale I could weigh one of mine.. not sure where I'd find that scale though!

I second that. When I moved mine I could do it myself, and per comparison with some other weights I have lifted or carried -plaster bags etc- I would say about 40 kg, that is about 100 pound, but it's just a "guesstimate".

I shipped a motor back to a customer after a rebuild and the exact weight with a small 22"x22"x22" wood box around it was 159lbs.

Shipped it via Forward Air, Inc..........cost around $82.00(Columbus, Ohio to Las Vegas)

          Thanks Greg, I can imagine that a box would add some to the total weight. Mainly I'm interested in the lower end anyway and may just go that way and save a bit more.

No problem. What surprises me is that nobody came in complaining because this should be in the "other bikes" forum. Actually, I'm considering posting my CB350 questions in the Open forum. Nobody seems to visit the "Other bikes" and getting 20 views to your question during a week is a little discouraging....

           Hey Raul,  I didn't really think about the "Other Bikes" forum cause the main deal was about a motor weight as related to shipping costs. But, now that you mention it, I AM surprised too!!

           Have you checked out hondatwins.com yet? They're new, but they're building up nicely.

         In order to save as much as possible and because I'm really only needing the trans & clutch from this motor, I'm wondering what the motor minus the complete top end would weigh? Could it be about half the total weight of the motor, Like maybe 50-60lbs?

Bill, I don't know the answer, but I do know most of that weight is in the bottom end. Tell you what. Tell me exactly what you are needing to ship, I''ll throw the separate parts in a box, and I'll weigh em for you when I get home from work. As it stands, my motor is all apart. Just tell me what you want to include, I'll even do the whole engine.

For the bottom end, say...from the base gasket down? Including the crank shaft/trans shafts/clutch/generator and magnet. Do you want the side covers installed as well?

Alright guys, these are fresh off the scale. For you Bill, no top end, 71 Lbs.

But since I was in the mood and had everything there, the total motor weighs in at a nice 108 Lbs. Keep in mind guys, this number is everything, and I mean everything, the points/speedo drive cover, the points plate, total engine weight, nothing spared, every bolt/nut.

So there ya have it. Enjoy!

CB500: 152# / 69 kg

CB550: 159# / 72 kg

 '78 750 shop manual lists the dry engine weight as 196lbs.(89kg.) I knew there had to be a reason I brought the manual home from the shop yesterday.

Hmm, the weight I listed for the 750 K0 came from the honda shop manual. Would there be that much difference between it and a '78? I wouldn't think so. I can heft a 750 motor in and out of the back of a vehicle solo, but I doubt if I could do it if it weighed almost 200 lbs.

   Could be Bob. I think the '77/'78 bottom ends are supposed to be beefier than the earlier engines. It wouldn't take much of a little here...a little there to gain 20lbs. Maybe some more weight in the heads too?
I happen to have a K8 engine sitting in my shop right now. I'll see if anyone in the building has a scale that can handle the weight.

Of course it would be heavier, it took them years to bring the 78 motor to perfection using proper materials.
