hey now!
« on: August 15, 2007, 04:39:38 PM »
Well, I just bought my first "classic" motorcycle, a '71 CB750. I gotta say, it's been a rush, and a headache... My other bike is a CBR929rr, which is a awesome bike to ride, needs little to no maintenance, but lacks that classic appeal of the old school cafe racers.

My technical knowledge of bikes is limited, but I got the tools and the gumption, and a good intuition of mechanics, to work though most problems I encounter. It seems this forum has a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw on should I come up against anything I can't work through on my own.

Currently, the bike is having some troubles maintaining a charge; I've got the battery hooked up to a charger right now, and as soon as it's running strong I'm busting out the multimeter and doing a diagnostic of the electrical system. Chances are it's going to come down to a faulty rectifier, but who knows... I'm just praying it's not a partial short somewhere in the wiring system.

Anyway, wish me luck...

Benjamin!

Welcome.  Not to start right in, but it may just be the battery, they only last 3 years max,  And that's on a good one.

Good to be here! Thanks for the welcome.

In terms of the bad battery, it's entirely possible. But! it seems that, between whenever I used it last and today, my multimeter stopped working, so it's hard to say for sure. Tomorrow I buy I new one, and I'll let you know the results of the tests.
