Honda guy hates 750's
« on: July 08, 2025, 10:56:51 AM »
A neighbor stopped by to mention he's moving and has a CB500T in brown (seat too) and a KZ 750 twin for sale. He's moving to a condo 4 hours away to be near his kids.
He again mentioned his belief that most Vintage Honda Club members are sick of all of the attention the CB750's get. So, I showed him my collection of 12 of them. He also sarcastically mentioned my old friend that says he built most of the 750's around here from the crate, so I showed him two that we know for a fact were assembled by him. L0L!
So, grumpy old 750 hating guy, so long, from a grumpy old CB750 loving guy. You will be missed, but not a lot.

I know they have their fans, but those 500Ts are lumps of turds and painted appropriately. Only redeeming quality is the shape of their tank, zeroed out by that damn seat.

I'm 100%  in agreement. He did mention the ugly seat. HA!

Wow! You took the words right out of my mouth!
I also discovered (because of something a local kid did with one of them, his dad's) that installing foam air filters into the stock airboxes will render the bike unstartable. Magically, removing them let it start with one kick (because the battery was almost dead by then!).
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Ya know?  Twins can be a lot of fun.  You would think that big twins like kz750 and cb500t would be big fun...but these bikes kinda suck.  A kz400 is just so much better and I will take a cb360 over the 500(or even the most impressive cb450)any day of the week.  So when you get bored of 4's or frustrated by 2 extra of everything, don't be tempted!

Other twins that are fun and you should be tempted by?  For sure!  BMW airheads, Sportsters, any 2 stroke especially Yamaha RD's and the Suzuki X6 is such a refined jewel of a bike and I am sure the list will grow longer!

The KZ 750 was a good bike; my friend Stan rode his along with 2 CBXs and I on my Seeley from the coast of CA to CO and back. It never skipped a beat, and didn't leak oil, unlike a Yamaha TX 750. ;D
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

My brother had a 58 BMW with bad cam bearings, that thing rattled for thousands of miles before a bike shop talked him out of it. I got my first ride on a Suzuki, the one just before the X6.
The CB750 hater says he's going to buy a Chinese bike with the KTM engine in it. CF Moto 800NK?

Yup.  My best riding buddy just moved to the U.P.  He bought a CFMoto 450 twin for exploring fire roads and snowmobile trails up there.  Surprisingly nice riding bike.  The word on it's durability is still out.  Have not been impressed with KTM's

Are those pix on Squaw Pass Road, going past Mount Evans and Echo Lake Lodge? (Some now call it "Mount Blue Sky", and the Lodge was taken over by Denver, now is either nothing or a 'safe injection site' for indigents from the city).

I loved my little $100 160, and dig those CB350s. Would love an early CB450 and still want a CB77 (had one that was in line to work on but then moved to Mexico and everything had to go, including the 160). But those 500Ts are just... a brown too far. Had a late '70s CB450T as well, also kind of a turd visually but quick compared to the 350F I also had at the time.

I went to look at a GB500 once, I got there and it was the double brown,  CB500 twin. Of course, he priced it like it was a one of a kind rare collectable. I complimented its condition, told him what I thought it was, and moved on.

I had a friend with one when I lived in Boston. Fun little bike, took it for a spin, not particularly gutsy but they look nice. Wonder if the CB500T guy was purposefully trying to scam someone, and if it worked. Very different bikes...

yup, so much conjecture about KTM on the web...still don't really know what lies ahead for that company or if/how it will affect CFMoto...
I mean who doesn't love a good cheap bike?  Thing is, there are so many amazing used bikes that are still half the price of a CFMoto...
