Why, oh why did they do this?!
« on: August 26, 2007, 01:23:41 AM »
Maybe I am the only one that feels this way about this bike, but I think that whoever had the idea to modify it like this should be #$%* slapped! This makes my cry!

Kind of funny.  I think I like it (although it looks uncomfortable).
This could be a major improvement over what he started with, too.
If it was done in the '70s, I'd call it "period modified".

Get rid of the ape hangers, tuck the fenders down a bit, and maybe there's an idea there.  Squint from 100 yards and maybe it looks like an old BMW  ;)

I'm with Uncle E on this one: I kinda like it. It makes it look like a rabbit in my opinion (the handlebars being the big ears.) There a lot of really nice examples of Dreams out there that I've seen, all restore and perfect looking, I think things like this help break up the monotony that sometimes occurs. It's not the best, but it's different and I'm sure it's gorgeous to some people. And it has that "I'm dorky and cool" feeling happen at the same time. Not all bikes can be badass.   ;)

The only thing I'm not digging is the taillights, they looks a little "weak." Not weak as in brightness, but styled poorly.

The first thing I thought when I saw it, before reading anybody's comment was "it's not that bad. In fact, it is cool in some way, even with the apehangers". Actually, is probably the first time I see apehangers fit on a roadster and not a cruiser.

I think the current bid vs. the Buy it now,  is reflective of the modifications he has done.

He took a $5,000+ bike and turned it into a $500 bike.

I have mixed impressions.  If he started with a basket-case that had NO hope of original completion, I might look towards custom.

After all, look what a lot of hot rodders did and still to cars.

It doesn't look like there's been any permanent modifications (frame chopping, etc), so I don't see why its such a tragedy, the bike could be put back to stock very easily if one so desired...just ditch the solo seat and ape hangers, and locate an original rear fender...

Personally it doesnt look that bad really...get rid of the ape hangers and maybe replace the solo seat with a cafe style seat..or at least a stock seat redone to resemble a cafe seat with a flatter hump to match the lines of the stock fuel tank. guess the idea im thinking of is something like a Kawi H2R seat perhaps..

If you dont like it, dont bid on it.  It's not like he did that with your money or your bike.
