Single Head Over Four
« on: August 13, 2007, 06:09:32 PM »
I opened my garage door tonight and a snake slithered in. I moved my bike out and proceed to push the snake out with a broom. I had him past the bike but he doubled back on me and went up the rear tire and stuck the head out by the horn. Now what do I do?

Start it up and let it get good and warm. I'll bet he'll get out pretty quickly.

Honk that horn... That would be the first real reason for having one that I can think of... 8)

He's coiled up under your tank, he'll pop out once you hit about 50mph.
Don't worry Snakes are not very grouchy when awaken from a slumber,
he shouldn't be to pissed. But if he is just remember you have the holy handgranade
Oh crap, the holy handgranade is only for rabbits.
Ok, if he is really mad you may have to give him the bike, in other words bail off.
Once the dust clears I bet he'll slither on off. At least you probably made it
far enough down the road so that maybe he won't come back to your garage.

I see that your problem is solved, but I's have done what BOTH these guys said and give him 2 reasons to leave. ;D My wife, on the other hand, would have said "Burn The Bike!" That's her "Blanket Answer" ::)  Let me tell you a quick story:

Went out to my storage building out back one day and I suddenly found myself looking at a snake in a wall locker in there. I closed the locker door and went to find something to take care of it with (there were cans of WD40 and such, in that wall locker). Only thing I could find was a new can of WASP spray. ::) I took that sucker out there, opened the door slightly, emptied the can, closed the door, left it for a bit and returned to find that snake gone! I have no idea where he went, when he went or how! Found another one last year and I ought to tell that one in a separate thread. ;)

                              Later on, Bill :) ;)

If the bike is still outside, start it up.  He'll feel that.

And I think we all know that the Holy Handgrenade of Antioch doesn't work well with rabbits either.

Forgot to include in my post here and the thread I mad about the snake in my building, that my wife was ready to burn the building. She keeps harping that they run in pairs! I told her that if they run in pairs, then these must be some mighty Stupid snakes because there were several years between the sightings! ::) The 2nd one must have gotten lost! ;D :D ::)

You should consider yourself lucky, most of us have to PAY for alarms and security systems ;D.  My best advice for snake visits would be to grab your neibors cat, throw it in and close the door :-X.

Bah, my parents have a 6' black racer that lives down in the chicken coop.  Doesn't do any harm, eats mice and rats and the occasional egg.  Her name is Ezmeralda  ;D

Snakes are kinda like spiders...  There's very few poisonous varieties in the US, and they do more good than harm.  And yet people still make an effort to kill them whenever they see them (spiders and snakes both), largely because they're misunderstood and villainized by the media.

Are you saying his snake is bigger than your snake?  ;D

I prefer to be deaf around my four too...

Usually in the sense of ; can you take out the trash?, did you pay the mortgage?, have you been trying to dirty dance with my mom again?, are you ignoring me?

Ill fire it up then, and she'll go back in...  8)

My daughter mentioned the custom paint job.

This is the second snake in the last two weeks. The other was a 4' black snake that got caught in my raspberry bird netting. I cut him loose but he ended up caught in another place. The second time he didn't make it. Too bad, they are useful.

This one was brown almost 5' long and very mean. I don't think it was a copper head but I don't know. When I was young I had many pet snakes but one was always snapping at me. We cut his head off and when we opened his mouth we found it had fangs.

It's not a copper head.  They don't get that long and they are, well, copper.  I have heard of many sightings of copper-headed rattle moccasins as long as 10 feet, but I never found one in the World Book encyclopedia.  I suspect that the vision of witnesses is blurred by lower branches and leaves.

Ask yourself, what would Steve Erwin (RIP) do?

My thoughts...

Don't wear shorts on your next ride.

Print that picture and put it on your bike.  You have a new theft deterrent.

Be glad you saw him and didn't get that surprise at 70 mph.

It would make a good theft deterrent.
I've been trying to figure out what kind of snake it was and I think it might be a North American Water Snake. It seems to match for size, color and aggression but my house is pretty far from any water.
