Falicon Con Rods... What's the deal?
« on: August 19, 2007, 10:39:57 AM »
Can someone tellme about falicon rods? They are much more affordable than the carrillos. I'm looking at building a 13krpm 736. Will the falicons handle this? It was my impression that the carrillos will handle about anything, but how do the falicons stack up?
Last I checked, the carrillos would set me back some 2500 bucks for a set. The falicons come in at about a grand.
No.

I paid more like $1,200 for my Carillos.

Interesting. Last time I checked was about a year ago. Have prices come down?

Still, the question stands.. How are the falicons?
No.

At that kind of RPM I'd be more concerned about my cam chain than the rods. Falicon makes good rods. I've never used them but people I know have. They say nice things about them.

My new engine has the Falicon Knife-Edge rods in it.  Buzz (Dynoman) told me that the Falicon rods are very popular with the SOHC4 drag racers.  He said that some guys switched from the Carrillos because they get more HP with the Falicons.  Who knows, but I think that they are great.  I paid around a grand.  They were never 2500.

I don't remember reading that camchain was a concern at higher RPM's.  What exactly would you be worrying about it, and what would you do to alleviate concern over it?
No.

That would just fall into the realms of showing off though, wouldn't it Sparty ;)

Not that there's anything wrong with that of course ;D

More the tensioner unit....the rubber can break apart. The unit from M3 Racing and a Tsubaki cam chain take care of that

Carrillos have never been $2500 unless they come installed on a stroker crank and overnighted to you. ;D

Actually they just went up, but they are under $1200.

The stock cam chain can stretch and break. I know because I've done it and I adjusted it every 100 miles. The tensioner was fine when I pulled the (trashed) engine apart. Tsubaki makes the heavy duty cam chain which is a worthwhile investment along with the M3 tensioner.
