reggie,if your frame kinda swoops like my 650 does, then take a look at some cruiser seats off jap bikes or harleys.

I want one that is a little wider in the front to cover up the frame.

what is wrong with having your stock seat resculpted by an upolstry shop? That way you know it fits and with the right materials and shaved foam it can look way different.

I've made pans out of fiberglass for Harleys because I couldn't find any seats I liked or there were none that would fit after I chopped them.  After making the pan, which is very easy but messy you just get it covered at a shop.  I can't find a seat that I like for my Sporty right now so I'm going to have to make one there.  For chopper/bobber type bikes my favorite look has always been the sprung solo seat.

I figure i would have to make it a hardtail to use a sprung solo seat.

You don't.  You just don't need the springs to work or you would need very, very stiff ones.  People actually put the springs on for looks when the bike is suspended but they don't actually function or you can mount the seat really low without springs.  Just an idea.
