Well though it doesnt help with the legal crap its a good thing to find they havent run up a huge bill on his card mate.
I still say get the guardianship done and over with, he will be able to relax and you wont be doing anything to control him unless its vital that you do.
Your peace of mind and his will both benefit from it mate.
Did he ever go through the whole "divorcing S and S" thing?
You say he is more and more alert, why not see if you can get a wireless connection and a laptop and let him say hi to us, might even give him a jolt, all this talk of old bikes could be the best medication for his mind.

Yeah, like I said, I'm kinda glad that they haven't been able to run up a tab on the card, even thought, if there would have been just one transaction after the 4th of Aug, it would have been turned in as fraud and I figure that it would have blown their case wide open and shut them down. As it is, we (Dad, foremost) have to wait until they decide to set a court date and go theough that ordeal. I just want it over, so that my Dad can quit saying I hopw so, when I say that we've got things going our way. I want him to feel confidant that it is over, he can relax, he won't have t see either one of them again and can get on with his life (as much as he possibly can and what he can't do, I'll help him do) ;)

Best we can find out, about all he can do, is to leave them nothing in the will. He wants to actually "Disown them" legally, if that's possible. I've wondered if a statement in the newspaper would be proper. I've seen where someone would put a statement in there about "not being responsible for the debts of another person" and I've wondered about something like (in more appropriate wording though) There is NO relation between David Lee Van Pelt or his family (Janet, David Jr., Kathi or Nicky) and myself signed Walter H. Van Pelt. It would be like "Airing Your Dirty Laundry" but, it would definitely get the point across. I know, it probably wouldn't be something you'd want to do. Just a though.

That would be cool to get him online to read what you all have put on here, but he's not really into messing with a pc except to play games, so far. Now, We expect to have him here at our house for Thanksgiving (sooner, actually) and maybe I can get him to sit with me while I check the site and the thread out. Might be as soon as a couple of weeks, who knows?

After we get past the Guardianship hearing, we'll see what the future holds. I want to talk to our lawyer about an irrevocable trust and see if that might be a way because, if there is nothing to gain (money-wise) they won't be so anxious. I also have heard an irrevocable POA mentioned and I don't know if there really IS such a thing or not.
                              So many possibilities.

Went to see my Dad today, I try to see him at least twice a day and today was no exception. :) The visit this evening was pretty cool. He said that lately, he'd been thinking about things he'd done or been through early in his life and wasn't sure how he made it this far, doing this well. :D Talking about trying to tear up pavement, run up trees and things like that (while riding a motorcycle no less). Then we got to talking about the different things he'd done to any particular one and the first thing he came up with was sealing up the engine sidecovers and putting vent lines from the areas that needed to be vented and running the vent lines up under the gastank and then coming up around the handlebar area and bending the vent lines over to prevent water from getting in them also. Then he related to me about how he'd be in an event that required crossing a swollen creek and others having drowned out, while he just pulled up to that same creek and went right across and sometimes the water being high enough that all you could see of the motorcycle was the handlebars, the top of the gae tank and the upper part of the triple tree! :o And the others were wanting to know how he did it. He told them and showed them, later. They reshaped wrenches that allowed them to pull the cylinders off of an Indian Chief, with the engine still in the frame and I don't know what all. If only they (my Granddad and my Dad) had gotten the rights on a number of things that they came up with to assist them in working on motorcycles and things like that, they could have made some pretty good money for their business. I know I've mentioned it before but the Trials kit that you can get at Royal Enfield for their Bullet model, is real close to what my Dad did to a similar model in 1955. Then, in 1957, the "Hounds Arrow" was introduced as an Indian (Royal Enfield) model, after an Indian Representative saw the one my Dad had built, using a brand new 1955 Indian "Fire Arrow". It is SO inspiring to hear those stories from him. 8) I remember some of those times, but some of those times were before MY time. ::)  If only I would have had these talks when his memory was more clear and would have made note of the info. :(

                                   Later on, Bill ;)

Definitely does Tim. ;)  It does my heart good just to know that he can relax and have some peace of mind. The conversations I have with him, are an added bonus! 8) ;) He gets such pleasure out of going back to the days when he was working at the shop, on motorcycles and what he'd done to get around obstacles, when working on them. I'll have to admit that I get quite a lot out of those stories myself. :)

You know though, it's a very humbling experience for me, to be there with my Dad (who used to be so strong minded, so energetic and displayed such a vast knowledge of mechanics from cars to motorcycles) and see him so vulnerable.  :(  Unless you've been there, I don't think you can imagine. Before now, I really didn't realize how things could end up being. I'm just so glad to have this time and be able to relate to him, with his knowing what I'm saying and all. ;)

I know what you are saying Bill but in my case it is a little different as I am a little further removed. In my case it is my grandfather. He is a man who was always busy and even more so cheap/industrious. This is a mna that didn't like the built in bed in his motorhome so he took a sawz-all to the back of it and removed the back wall and extended it by 3 feet so he could put in a free standing queen bed. The he didn't like the idea of leaving the motorhome out in the driveway so he re-did the garage door (and surrounding brick etc) so that he could pull the now 34 foot motor home into the garage  ::) . Oh yeah this was long after he was retired I would have guessed he was in his early 70's at this point!

Well a couple of years ago he had a pretty major stroke and now he can barely walk. Still just as stubborn and industrious and has jury rigged damn near eveything he owns so that he can in someway still use it (like his riding lawn mower etc). The big difference is he can't do the work himself and relies on his boys and us grandkids to be his hands for us. It is sad and somewaht awe inspiring at the same time.

With a touch of luck maybe you'll be able to get him into that garage and get started on the 750A resto...I bet he can still show you a thing or two....even if you have to be his hands at times.

Dennis, thank you very much for sharing that about your Grandfather. I can just see him doing all those things with the motorhome and such. My Dad had always done things with his hands until he got that Army Reserve Unit Administrator position and then he kinda backed off some. Oh, that's not to say he didn't do some odd jobs in the garage and such. He has had a bit of a hard time keeping his energy level up, since he was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. He has been looking and seems to be doing better lately. I've had him out of The Area for 3weeks now, and I can't help but feel that that has helped. Last night (Monday Night) was "Movie Night" again and watched another "John Wayne movie" with him (and the others who were there also). Seems to make him feel good to have me there to watch the movies with him. 8) Gotta tell you that it makes ME feel good too, to be there with him like that. ;) The way he's looking and feeling, I would not be surprised if he wasn't able to move over to that "Assisted Living Home" shortly. :) It would just be too cool, to have him looking good and walk in on his own, when we have to make that appearance in the Courtroom. ;D

BTW, before I can even think of getting the 750A in the garage, to work on it, I'm going to have to do a lot of cleaning out to make room. Get to THAT ASAP! ;) And, I have NO doubt that my Dad can still show me a thing or 2. ;D  After all, HE taught me. :)

                               Take care Dennis,  Bill ;)

Yeah, it is good that he made a lot of them, we've seen most all of the westerns over the years. I kinda like the old westerns, guess I got that from my Dad and my Granddad. ;)  And, thanks Tim, I intend to see ALL I can with him. Now, I AM hoping that before long (maybe a week or 2), he'll be moved to that Retirement Home and then, he can come over to our home, go out to eat, or whatever. ;)

Went and saw my Dad tonight, He's doing fine, he's been up a few times to go to the bathroom and back. And that's real good news too! Might not be too long before we can go to the Retirement home! ;) Anyway, I got to talking about wanting to do  a bit of work on the RD350 to give it a bit more life and my Dad started talking his stuff about how you could make a 2 cycle run pretty good without spending much on it. Reworking the ports, jetting and the exhaust. He was really going on that subject. 8) I was pretty sure he would, I've heard a percentage of that before. ;) By golly though, for someone who's supposedly into Alzheimer's pretty deeply, he sure does keep a conversation going in a sensible way and brings out some pretty good details while he's at it. Only thing is, he mentions, now and then, about how he wants to get another motorcycle and get out there. That makes me a bit nervous and then he will say, but, I guess I'd better not. Don't know if I can handle one now or not. I chime in with,"when I get the 750A going and put the sidecar on it, I'd like to take you for a spin in it." He'll sat that it's been a very long time since he's been in a sidecar. To my knowledge, that must have been before my time. I know that MANY years ago, my Granddad had a sidecar rig (H-D) that he and my Grandmother went to Springfield Mass. and came back on a brand new Indian. 8) I can only imagine that it might have ben that H-D/sidecar that he was talking about (not for sure). Well, that's enough rambling for now. ::)

                                      Take care all,  Bill ;)

          Thanks Manny,
Sure appreciate your support, It ALL helps and I think I'm starting to get a glimpse of that light. 8) Each time that I leave him, I tell him that I love him (the guys in our family just never were much for doing that and I just felt the need to start) and he started responding right away, which in itself was cool. And, just a few weeks ago, he started responding to me with, "I you you (sometimes it's you all) too, more and more everyday!" ;) That kinda gets to me at times. Everyone at the nursing home just can't get over how much he's improved in such little time. They haven't really started doing the therapy yet, he had some trouble with his blood sugar going to low and then the spasms in his esaphagus. Now, He's been doing so well, that they are concerned about him having a setback. Thing is, IF they don't get him moving soon, he's liable to start pushing me to get him out of there! Now, mind you, he wouldn't have to push real hard. No, realy they have done real good by him here and he knows that, he just wants to get to the point where he feels like he has some control in his life and I can understand that. :)

Whoa!!!!!! :o 248 pages? ??? ::)  I knew there was quite a few, but don't guess I realized that much. My Dad is going to get to see and realize just how much support you all have given us and that will be quite a realization. I mean, for me to tell him, is one thing, but for him to be able to read it for himself, is quite another! 8)

Well, the nursing home didn't start the therapy yet. They are a little skeptical because, in the 1st week he was there, he made 2 "Emergency Trips" to the hospital. Now, he's doing just fine, but they were concerned about a relapse. Said they would be starting the therapy this coming week. I can understand their reluctance and all, but, this week best be getting started on the therapy. He's ready to go to the Assisted Living place And has been "carefully" getting up and going to the bathroom anyway. :D I told him that that was the initial thing we needed to accomplish anyway. 8) If you remember, he needed to meet TWO requirements for the "Golden Years Village Retirement Home" and those are #1 Going to the bathroom by himself & #2 Being able to get out of the building in 3 minutes. #2 can be handled with the Powered Chair that we have access to. ;) He is talking more about getting back to doing things himself (taking control of, at least, some of his daily living things (that he is able to do). I think he's starting to be able to visualize (to some extent) the setting over there at the retirement home (I've been telling him the details of it for some time now. Kinda wondering which "John Wayne Movie" they will be showing Monday night. ;D

Chris

Yeah Chris, on a lot of ways they are better. Only thing is, we've still got that "(can't say the words)" Guardianship Lawsuit hanging over us and they've still got his stuff (although the license plate looks to have expired because the new sticker isn't on it and the new insurance policy proof isn't with it. I've got that stuff and I'm sure NOT going to provide that to them so they can just keep on going! The license plate indicates that it expired on Sept 30, even though I renewed it before then. ;D My Dad will still ask now and then, who's handling his affairs, where is his van, are they still living in his house (not the one that my Dad actually lived in) and if he has a Will? SO, these things are still bothering him and I need to get that corrected ASAP. I think he might be remembering some about the Will that they had put in place, because he asked me if I had a copy of it and, if I did, he wanted to see it as he had some changes he wanted to make. At first, I was puzzled, I thought he might be going back the other way and that he might be thinking that David was the one who was helping him. ::) But, when I reminded him that we had gone to the lawyer and he had told the lawyer that he wanted David to get nothing and wanted me to get everything, he smiled and said, yes, that's the way I wanted it. He had forgotten that we had already accomplished that. I really get on a high when I mention something specific about the design of a particular motorcycle or say something about hopping up a 2 stroke or such as that, and his mind starts working and I start getting all kinds of comments and/or info. 8) ;) Also, seeing the joy in his expression, says that he is happy talking about his favorite past time and for that time frame, at least, he's not thinking about THEM (or what they've done and trying to do). Guess that's it for now, just needed to talk some, that's all. Thanks for listening. ;)

I am going to call the lawyer today, to touch base and see if there is anything we can do to bring this thing closer to being over. I'm also going down there tomorrow to check the place, try to get the security system set up (that I got from Burmashave. Thank you again for that, Will) and touch base with the Sheriff's Dept and the Police Dept. to let them know about the license and insurance thing on the van. It does make me kinda jittery, not having heard anything from or about S & S for all this time. It's like the "Calm Before The Storm", you know? Hard to believe that this portion of this ordeal has been going on since the 27th of July and we're halfway into Oct. (almost). Of course, the initial start of this whole thing was in the summer of 06', when mt Dad originally made me the the Executor of his Will. So much time has past (that you can never get back) and so little time is left. :(  When this is all said and done (and all the dust settles), I sure hope I don't exhaust hi, trying to make up for lost time and trying to make sure that he is really enjoying his remaining time on this earth.

Thank you Sam, I'm..a..hangin'! ;)  Here's a shot of my Dad, in the early 60's, doing one of the things he liked best. (He's coming out of that creek)
