Guys, My Dad and I REALLY are PROUD to have you all behind us and all! 8) ;) Means a lot to us, I can tell you! :) We're waiting to see what the response will be to my Dad's terms of "The Meeting". ::) I mean, the claim is, that they BOTH want to see him! :P I may be wrong, but, I don't think David will show up knowng that he's not supposed to bring her AND that he will be seeing ME there also! ;) Anyway. ::)

Now, to today's events (or lack of). I called the Retirement Home and the young lady I needed to talk to, was at WalMart with some of the "Residents" of the Retirement Home and I was told that they would give her my message and would call me back. Nobody called and I was also told that the room we had hoped to get, was no longer available. The only type that were now available were small ones and some "1-bedroom apartments. This may actually be a blessing though. You see, in this case, the small room is more than the larger room because, the small room means that the person is more dependant. And the 1-bedroom apartment is still cheaper that what he is paying now, plus that place takes "Medicare" & "Insurance", so out of pocket expense will be less. And, he will have oxygen equipment (the unit and 2 bottles) so we will be able to go out and do things together. 8) I'm really finding SO much Peace and Warm Feelings lately. You see, I go over there every evening and we watch some really great Christmas movies. We watched Tim Allen in "The Santa Clause 2" (we saw the 1st one w few days ago), my Dad was really enjoying it and I found myself feeling the Spirit so much and I'm just SO grateful to have him up here closeby. :'(

Glad to hear it Bill.

I had been been very close to my Gramma, going through the transition with her to a nursing home was hard. There was a steep learning curve and plenty to stay on top of. A surprising experience for me was a deepened admiration for the older generation beyond anything I experienced before. This, thanks to the other residents and my grandma. Also, I felt honored that I now had the privilege to take care of (as best as I could) my grandmother since she helped raise me. I owe so much of whatever redeemable qualities I have to her. I only wish I could have done more.

Which brings me to the point that it is unfortunate many consider caring for the elders of our family an inconvenient burden. Perhaps, but the reward far and away surpasses it. Personally, I thank God for the gift of the experience.

Just my opinion Bill but as hard this whole situation has been I think you've been blessed to have this chance to be there for your dad. He sounds like a heck of a guy.

Just my opinion Bill but as hard this whole situation has been I think you've been blessed to have this chance to be there for your dad. He sounds like a heck of a guy.

Bill, I'm sure that you did the best you could, towards your Gramma and I'm also sure that she knew that you were there for her, as best that you could be. :) THere are some folks at the Nursing Home, who don't seem to have anyone to come and see them (or may have some who have put them there, like S & S tried to do to my Dad). No way of knowing which way it is. Yesterday evening, when I went over to see my Dad, I expected to find him in a different area (you see, the Nursing Home called me to ask about moving him into a different area which had folks who were more like him. Being of his own mind and he could socalize with them and feel more like a small community. They even have their own dining room. Would have been like a step up. I told them I had no problem with it but they needed to ask him what he wanted to do.) So, when I went in last night, I expected to have to locate him and asked a Nurse where he was and she replied that he was still in the same room because he refused to move. At this point, I wondered what state he would be in, when I saw him. :( When I walked in, he was the same as usual, no problem. :) When I asked him about staying in that room,he replied that no one asked talked to him about moving and shortly after (just a few minutes), he said something about being asked if he wanted to move, but he couldn't see any sense in it. Dad has a roommate who doesn't talk real well,  he can't get around without being in some sort of a wheelchair (and they have to strap him in it) and the guy fusses & cussess quite a bit. My wife and I think that Dad feels like he is helping the guy and the nurses because Dad will call for the nurses when the roommate is out of sorts or whatever. I ALSO think that my Dad didn't want to move because he knows that I'm working to get him over to the Retirement Home and wants me to be able to know where he is, when I come in (he's been through so much and he is very appreciative of my efforts to get him away from S & S and KEEP him away from them! ;) Also, last night, he gave me quite a start. He made the comment that he was ready to get out of there (the Nursing Home) and go home, all the way home! He had me thinking that he meant, to be with my Mom who passed away in 2002! Then, he added "To the Lake!" That's where his home is.

Well, I've rambled quite enough, I've got to get around and start working on trying to get him over to that Retirement Home (He's ready for that move, if it'll get him closer to his home. ;)

I know what you mean about people who seem to be left behind or forgotten. I use to chat with very charming folks who never appeared to have visitors. I can relate to the relative (no pun intended) emotional roller coaster ride occasionally waiting for you when you arrive. It may only last moments but it sure makes you appreciate every day that it drama free. :)

My grandma said something similar to me once and I thought just for a moment she might be talking about home home! Well, I danced around that one!

Wow, just thinking about this brings back lots of feelings and memories. I'm pulling for you and your dad. Best wishes for a smooth move Bill.

Bill,

I've been reading your story for the last twenty pages or so.  I haven't chimed in because I didn't/don't really think i have much to add that hasn't been said (also i still feel kinda like the newb around here ;)).

Your journal here is one of the best things I have read in a long time.  I am better for having your example.

Merry Christmas everyone, I'm going to go kiss my son goodnight.

Merry Christmas everyone, I'm going to go kiss my son goodnight.

It reall IS quite involved. I knew there was going to be some problems with  my brother David, but I wasn't prepared for this and neither was my Dad! :(

I DO appreciate yout kind words "I am better for having your example". I'm not so sure that I am such a good example to follow. I'm trying to do what's right, make sure that my Dad is taken care and not put in a Nursing Home to rot! That's exactly what they (S & S "David & Jan" ) did and then they hoped to make off with his money along with his possessions, cutting me completely out in the process. Speaking of THEM, this Wednesday (Dec 17th) we (my Dad and I) are scheduled to meet with David (providing that, David puts my Dad's van on my Dad's driveway, brings the keys, Dad's billfold w/his personal effects & Leaves Jan at home). Our Lawyer said he would let us know as soon as he received a response from them and we've heard nothing yet. I called today and had to leave a message with his secretary, as he was unavailable at that time. I would hope that David would finally comply as this would give my Dad some more peace of mind and see more of what he wants, come to pass. In the back of my mind, I can see David not showing up because he isn't supposed to bring Jan AND I can also se him showing up with Jan, just to cause more problems! >:( I'm doing my best to be patient and trying to get my Dad to be as patient as possible also, for his own sake (I, however, am having a hard time keeping my patience in tact. When I can tell (and/or show my Dad that it is over and he can resume his life, as much as possible, I'll be SO relieved because my Dad will be able to be more content and relax! ;)

Merry Christmas to you and your family Greg, may you and your son ALWAYS have a GREAT relationship! 8)

AND I hope that ALL of the SOHC4 folks AND their families have a Wonderfully Merry Christmas! ;)

Take care, My Dad, Brenda (my Wife), Karla (my Daughter)

Thanks spikey, it does my heart good to see my Dad be more relaxed and enjoy himself. But, nearly every night, we go through a short period of things like: #1 "Where's my van?" #2 "Who's got my things that I keep in my pockets? (keys, billfold and such)" #3 "When I get out of here, I'm going to have to get rhem off of my property!" #4 "I need to see my Will, there are some changes I need to make!" "#5 I don't want them to get anything!" #6 "I want to disown him and I want both of them gone completely and never want to see either of them again!"  To which I answer: #1 "They've got the van, but the license and proof of insurance has expired, according to the sticker on the license and the date on the proof of insurance (I've renewed them both but have the sticker and new policy myself)." #2 & #3 After the Guardianship Lawsuit is over, the retreival of his things and the eviction will follow." #4 You have a NEW Will that is laid out the way you requested."  #5 The new Will leaves them with NOTHING!" #6 I think that when this is over, you will have done about everything that can be done.

Now, I'm not sure if you all remember, but we were supposed to be working on a "Meeting" with David (they both requested to meet with my Dad and he doesn't want to even SEE her, or him for that matter) Dad agreed to see David, on the condition that he park the van on Dad's driveway, lock it up and bring the keys along with his billfold and personal effects to a place selected by my Dad (and leave HER at home!). Now we were supposed to get a confirmation through their lawyer and ours to us! We never got that confirmation and so we won't be meeting with David (not yet anyway). I sure would like to see this COMPLETELY finished BEFORE
Christmas and be able Tell my Dad that it is OVER! Totally AND Completely OVER.

Okay, my "anger level" is back down somewhat (not gone, but down to a more manageable level) and I can better cope with things for now, I think.

BTW, I agree that "Hard Work ALWAYS Pays Off"

Spikey, you've had some pretty trying times yourself and I Truly Hope That You All Have A Merry Christmas And A Very Happy New Year Too! ;)

Thank You For The Concern,  Bill ;)

:D  You know, when I read that I immediately thought of a Pepsi commercial some years ago that showed a small boy being swamped by some puppies and the boy had a very cool continuous giggle! 8) ;) Very Cool Indeed! 8) ;)

Enjoy.  You deserve a laugh, too.

Ha! Ha! :D  Thanks for that, firecracker! ;) You have made my day! That was so cool to see that commercial again. I really appreciate the effort to find that and it does mean a lot! I always thought that that commercial was SOoooo COooollllll! I mean, if the sound of that boy laughing, wouldn't make a person smile and even laugh, then that person must be DEAD! Funny how tough we can be at times and yet, how something as simple as that commercial, could put a smile on your face! :D 8) ;)

Thanks for posting that ;) Take care, Bill ;)

Yeah, firecracker pulled oif a good one! 8) Wouldn't have even though of that commercial again, if 333 hadn't of mentioned "puppies & kittens". ;)
BTW, I couldn't have told you the year either. :(

I do what I can, (Hands in pockets, looking down at feet, kicks the ground).   ;D ;D ;D

That commercial makes me happy I'm a Pepsi person.  And while we're on the subject, this was my pup on our first trip to the beach last year with her.  She was passed out on the passenger floor!
