anyone have a good tip on mounting a CR750 seat and tank?
« on: August 19, 2007, 10:34:19 PM »
i got a seat and tank used and now im tring to figure the best way to mount them to my 76 CB750F frame.  the tank and seat are airtech if that helps.  i know that the F frame is longer then a K so the rear is going to hang out alittle bit but i am mounting a 'busa tail light under the seat so tha will make up for it.
i wanted to know if anyone had a good tip to make it alittle easyer to mount
thanks for any help

The tank and seat should be a bolt on deal. If you bought the airtech tank witht sump you will have to remove your oil tank and figure something else out. Both other than that the frame should not stick out past the seat. If you got a real CR replica seat the tabs ont he back of the seat should cover the frame end tabs, you could use them to mount turn signals and bolt through the seat holding it on.

i have the tank with out the sump.  should there be a gap between the seat and tank?  thats the only way that the taps meet the hole at the end of the frame.  i thought that the F frame was longer?

There should but only because I think the tank without the sump is slightly shorter than the one with the sump. and also because they might have needed to get to the take release without removing the seat during racing. I also have seen some bikes where the oil filler neck comes up in front of the seat.

here is the same set someone else has on a k bike and he has the gap too.

I looked at world's 970 recreation and it looks like they bobbed the frame to move the seat forward. they are also using that small bobbed seat, not the longer factory seat.

airtech's own site shows both gap and gapless variants as well:
