Stripping the tank
« on: August 22, 2007, 03:26:13 PM »
I'm going to strip the paint from the tank this weekend and I was wondering if anyone can give me any suggestions or tips for this process.  I hope I can learn from your mistakes and successes.  I would like to know what products you have had luck with and were the best place to get them is.

Thanks.

Just get you some good paint stripper and follow the directions to the T.

Tip: patience!  it may take more than 1 application & removal of stripper.

I have stripped 3 tanks by hand in past year. But my current project needed cleaned inside . Took it to the local radiator shop and had cleaned and stripped for $25. Quick prep wash and is ready to prime!

Whatever you do DO NOT try to strip the side covers with paint stripper. Don't ask me how I know. Dannie

Called some radiator shops in Chicago and they talked to me like I was an idiot.  Apparently no shops here will do that.
