Need a good shop
« on: August 24, 2007, 04:02:40 PM »
This is for Ontario members.I'm looking for a shop preferably in the GTA to do some work on my K2 engine.I have heard some members say some shops won't touch our motors.
My motor unfortunately, was left to sit in an unheated garage for 10 years. It's seized and I have the cylinders loaded up with oil but if I don't see some results in a week, major surgery will be required.

Put it in 2nd gear and give it a wiggle every day. Use plenty of penetrating oil via the spark plugs. Be patient.

Best shop in the area is right there in your own garage.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I'm a little unclear about the question - do you want a shop where you (yourself) can work on your bike?  Or is a shop with a mechanic to work on your bike for you, what you are looking for?

+1

Or if motor is off the bike take the alternator off and try gently cranking at the rotor bolt with the longest lever you have.

Key words here are patient and gently for either method or you could end up breaking a ring or land.

Thanks for all the advice, the motor is out and in a frame I constructed to allow the kick lever to be used. I've got it in second gear and have gently pushed down on the kick but find a lot of resistance. I've only had oil in the cylinders via the spark plug holes for 2 days and I know it will be a week before it can fully seep down the rings.the P.O. did not say why he had stopped riding so I suspected he may have seized the motor. If the motor was running when it seized I may have to have her honed which is why I was looking for a shop to do the work if worse comes to worst. Hopefully it only has a little rust and loosens up.

Now you are realy thinking to far ahead. These engines are very robust.
Don't use just oil but penetrating oil or petrolium. It has taken me up to 3 weeks to get things unstuck. The daily wiggle is important, even minuscul movements will help the penetrating oil to seep in.

Good luck
