CB550 - What does a new carb float weigh?
« on: August 22, 2007, 02:29:10 PM »
First off, I have personally rebuilt hundreds of carburetors of all shapes and sizes. When I do not replace the black plastic Nitrophyl float - the carb floods. I have taken a float from a carb that flooded and squeezed it in a vise and watched the fuel flow out. Just like squeezing a sponge.
 Bringing up the question..

Does anyone out there have..

(a)a NEW float.

AND..

(b)an accurate scale to weigh it on. (laboratory, cartridge reloader, pharmacy, paint shop, crack dealer..)

I would like to compare the weight of new to what I have.

I would like to be confident that this job will work without spending another $100+ on four new floats.

(actually I would rather put brass in them and be done with it, but I don't know what fits. looking at the Honda fiche, 350 twin has a similar shaped bowl and what looks like a brass float. $14 each vs. $26 for my plastic crap.)

Any facts would be helpful, opinions less so.

Thanks.

Happy trails.
