The previous owner for my bike used duplicolor truck bed liner on the tank and sidecovers.  It looked like matte black from a distance, and was relatively durable considering it came out of a rattlecan.

I recently resprayed it gloss black with 2k base coat, clear coat, as I didn't like the "ratty" feel that the bed liner gave the bike when inspecting it up close.  From far away, the wrinkle paint looked and help up great!

Yes, it took a little bit of extra effort, but it did sand smooth, and was not especially hard to get through.

Secret to wrinkle paint is heat. Have done several MGB dashes that came out great. Do it on the hottest day of the year (like today and tomorrow) in direct sunlight.

Ditto on the need for heat when doing wrinkle paint.

I use a heat lamp to get the item pretty hot before spraying.

Heat the rattle can, too (this is good advice for spraying anything with a rattle can. Heat the paint in a pot of hot water and shake frequently while spraying. It helps the paint to flow out.)

Leave the heat lamp on the item for 30 mins or so after spraying. The heat is what makes it wrinkle.

And post pics when you're done!
