Rita is Home at last.
« on: August 22, 2007, 09:19:08 AM »
Through everything going on in the last year, I have you great people to thank for a great thing that happened. Rita was able to stay with me and found a temporary home with Scondon.

Well, this last Saturday found a friend from Hondachopper.com and Thechaplainscorner.com over at Scondons'place, trailer in tow, loading up Rita for the trip home to Bethel Island. She now sits, while not gracefully, at least gratefully, to be home with me at last.

I see us spending many hours in the near future together.

Thank you so much everyone, for making this moment possible,

Jeff

Dusty, I am so happy for you!!! It's nice to know there are still some good guys out there willing to help a brother out when he is down. Kudos to the boys for helping you out!

Congrats on your reunion! Now get yourself healthy so that the 2 of you can spend some time together on the open road...

Without pictures, this could just be another urban myth.  Do I need to go to snopes.com?

Good to hear.  Now take care of BOTH of you.

Good to see you got her back home.  Since you're going to have a little down time for recovery, may as well make the best of it and detail your baby.  Lot's of stuff you can do from the comfort of a chair, polishing, wiring, detailed paintwork......I'm sure you'll figure it out and you're recovery will go much faster.

This is what Rita was down to at Scondon's place. She has just been moved to my place out in the boonies. I still have some parts I need to buy but I can get started on the teardown finally. I will be installing an 850 Big Bore kit from Ken at Cycle Exchange. It is $100 less than an 836 kit and CycleX is well enough known that they will be able to provide any replacement parts. The only other things I need are a front end and a battery. I have everything else now and look forward to starting the build. She will be ready by the time I get cleared by my doctor.

More pics to come.

Tell us you drained the carbs and tank and fogged the tank with WD-40.

Or,   ....will you be replacing those too?

The tank is going to another person, I already have a replacement. It is a 5 gallon flatside Harley tank, much better than the 1.9 gallon that one is.

The carbs were hit with WD so they should be fine. I'll be out there today removing the carbs and getting things started on the teardown so I will be able to fix any other problems. I never did figure out why 2 and 3 weren't firing. The points, condenser, and coils were all tested good, so it is probably in the wiring.

Now is the best time to do all the small tedial things like tuning, carb buildin',polish parts ,etc. You can do all of this at your own leisure while you are out of work mending.......but don't get carried away with what your body can tolerate......keep us informed of your progress.
