Greetings from CT
« on: August 27, 2007, 05:50:22 PM »
Hello all,

I inherited a 1972 CB500 from my father about 6 years ago.  He was the second owner, it was gifted to him from a family friend.  He had it running and let it sit.  When he passed I took it to a shop and had the carbs cleaned and now it runs great.  I am commited to learning how to do some basic work myself and this forum (that I have been lurking on for a while) has helped.

The bike has a tick over 4,000 miles and runs pretty good.

Here is a pic:

Thanks alot.... Dave

That is a real show piece and keeping running well will only add to your enjoyment.

Welcome!

That is an extraordinarily fine looking bike!

Whereabouts in CT are you?

I grew up (okay, I never actually grew up...) in Stamford.  Worked in W. Hartford for a few years.

Hey Bobby,

Where are you 'going up there' from?  Where does your kid go to school?  I taught at Hebrew High School of New England/HHNE the first three years the school opened.

Welcome! Is that a 4-2 pipe or are you missing a pipe?  ::) I cant tell from the photo...just curious. Looks like the original muffler.

I don't think it's the original exhaust.  I don't know how to properly describe it.... dual 2 into 1?  One exhaust pipe on each side.   I do not have a picture but I will snap one and post it.

Also.... looks like a fellow Sprint owner on the board.  I too own a 2007 Sprint ST that I recently purchased.  I absolutely love it.  Actually, taking a couple days off next week and making it a long weekend. A group of buddies I ride with are going to Canada.  Can't wait.

Dave, that would be called a 4 into 2.  4 headers leaving the engine, ending in two pipes total (one muffler on each side).

My Sprint ST is a 2001.  Along with my 750Four, it is my regular ride.  They are radically different from each other.  I can't say I like one better than the other; but in some ways I prefer my old bike.  If I had to have only one, and could figure out how to have nice unobtrusive lockable hard bags on the Honda, I'd be set.  'Course, power response, handling, braking, mpg are all better on the Triumph... :D  I still have to set it up so I can sit up just a little more.  My short arms have me leaning forward more than I like.

CT to Canada will be a great ride!  Are you going to the Maritimes, or inland?  Up through Maine, or VT?

It's been said, but what a sharp looking bike.  Maybe we'll cross paths out there at some point.

Hey Bobby,

Where are you 'going up there' from?  Where does your kid go to school?  I taught at Hebrew High School of New England/HHNE the first three years the school opened.
He goes to the U of Hartford. In semester 1 he was taking up Space until I explained to him at $40K a year I would cut him off, retire and he could go do whatever he wants. This summer I got him a job in the South Bronx where he could do some hot grimy work in 110F boiler rooms. I wanted him to see a World far different from the tree lined streets we raised him in. He got a great education in what the other side of life looks like. I think he went back to School with a better attitude. If he did not,  I will have plenty of cash to buy a new bike and retire for the second time. I do not believe in raising children, I want to raise an adult.
