I got T-boned 20 years ago.  Shattered left knee-cap.  Had an (almost) total patellectomy (bits of broken kneecap removed).  They said I'd be out of action for 3 months - I was back at work in 2.  Bought a CBX 1000 while still using a walking stick...  hang in there!

Please send my heartfelt prayers from another 400F rider that was almost taken out this weekend, to him and his family.

Just to let you know, you might want to check to see if the headers are okay and the casting of the head. That wheel looks pretty close!!!

Hope to hear from him on the forum

I heard this saying from my father. "The brighter your clothing is, the brighter you'll come across".

When I was 15, it made sense but I didn't follow those words till now.

I hope you prove those doctors wrong and go riding in 6 months. ;)

billy's in surgery right now... hope all goes well.

i had a chance to look at the frame last night, and the backbone is visibly curved. there is in fact a small dent in the #1 header where the wheel impacted it.-- as for the head, i didn't look. i did ride it in it's #$%*ed up state the 1/4 mile or so it took to get it back to our garage. the handlebars were turned almost completely to the right as i rode straight.  :o

If he is having his surgery at Emanuel, they have some really good surgeons there.  I used to work there for many of those doc's, both Ortho and Trauma.  Wishes on a successful surgery!

Paul, did you get any response on that freebie rolling chassis?

Good to hear he didn't get paralyzed and it's just this season that he's out.  Get well soon!  I'll keep my eyes open for a parts bike for ya.

he actually just got out of surgery because a doctor noticed that he could only wiggle his toes in one direction,

Well wishes and prayers go out ot him,

I was in a bad wreck years ago with the whole left leg crushed, and for a while after I couldnt move my foot /toes in the up direction, but the nerves and bones and muscles grew back fine and I CAN do everything i used to be able to do...

well except run, but thats because i had shattered my right ankle

Good luck

the strangest thing happened tonight... i pulled up to my house and parked against my garage, which is on a major street, and the garage is at the sidewalk. right where i always park, there was a 400/4 tank sitting there. is this some very strange coincidence, or did someone on here recognize my bike and know that billy may be in need of 400/4 parts for his crashed bike?

is there really a motorcycle tooth fairy?

How did the reconstruction surgery go? I'm hoping the outcome was good. And billdramp, we need to see you posting here as soon as you can.

he finally had the surgery last night, and though he is in a lot of pain (a lot), it seems he's at least on the road to recovery. no telling when he'll get out of the hospital. thanks to everyone for the kind words-- i'm sure he'll be back on here as soon as he's back to a computer. might be able to keep him off of a bike for a while, but there'll sure be no keeping him from thinking about them...  ;D

Hey Gang. :)

Well... To anyone following my "story" I will post a few updates. But first I want to send out a hearty Thanks to everyone on here for all of their well wishes. It has been a rough trip for the last few weeks. I would also especially like to thank all of my Portland brothers for visiting me in the hospital... Sorry you guys had to see me like that. Paul (paulages), Frank (whodareswins), Eric (Mr. Blasty), Mark (Mlinder), Brad (southbound) all came to see me in the hospital, and post on here. Thanks guys... anyone who has ever been laid up like this knows how much it means to have support.

Anyhow... Yeah Paul pretty much posted the details of my "accident" on the first of this post.

I just remember thinking... "is this guy stopping?" I started braking... then braked harder... it was too late. I skidded and then he hit me, I flew over the car and bike... helmet flew off... Langlitz jacket all scuffed up, and I couldn't move in the middle of the road. And all I could do was lay there thinking... f*ck... my favorite 400/f is trashed for good. And then... I could

So... paul took me to to the hospital and I stayed there for two plus weeks and three surgeries. Now the have let me "go home" ie... kicked me out of the hospital because I don't have health insurance.

Not sure what is gonna happen with all of the insurance crap... This is my first accident on a bike. I can't imagine they will give me what my bike was really "worth"... but anything will be nice to put towards another one.

I have retained a personal injury lawyer becuase of my medical bills... I am not sue happy, but I don't wan't the huge insurance companies laying over on me on this. This was not my fault.

Interesting note: my attorny told me that it was much harder to prove motorcycle related cases because... well simply because we ride motorcycles, and people consider them to be "reckless". What a crock of crap.

I have a huge cast type of thing on my leg that restricts my movement of my leg that I will have to wear at all times for three months, along with no load bearing on that knee. And after three months I'm not sure what happens, physical therapy? As of now I have no upward movement in my feet or toes which I am told hopefully will return after some of the swelling goes down in my knee/leg and quits strangling my nerves etc. I hope so... it will be difficult to shift otherwise.

Anyhow... Just wanted to say thanks to all of the friends I have made on here that have sent well wishes as well as offered parts to get my ride back up and running.

Guess I will have the long Portland winter to help me get my bike on the road, and hopefully finish my other 400 build that I was knee deep into at the time of the accident.

Thanks again guys... I will keep everyone posted on my recovery. And I will try and answer all of the PM's ASAP.

Cheers from Portland,

Billy

I'm glad to hear you're out of the hospital and in your way to recovery. On car vs. bike accidents the odds are always against us. You just beat the odds!

Best wishes for a prompt recovery.

there was a biker in Omaha like you was buggered up by a collision with a car, and hired an attorney.  He won his case, about $100,000, and after the lawyer got his cut, the biker owed about $5,000.  but he is alive, and so are you, and all in all, that ain't such a bad deal.

Worse case scenario we find you a 750A so you don't need to shift  ;)

Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery...don't want to minimize it by any means but I'm sure you'd agree it could have been worse...time to count your blessings. Seems like you have the right attitude going on and that will certainly assist with the recovery.
