just came from the hospital. he's doped up on painkillers and laid up in bed, but they can't do the surgery until the swelling goes down. he's bummed on missing the rest of the riding season.  ::) ;D he's gonna need plenty to do for a while to keep him from going crazy, so i'm planning to help him with his repairs and other projects as much as possible. thanks to everyone who has offered help-- one person was concerned about posting his address publicly online.. the address is to his record store, so no worries.

i've been friends with billy for almost 20 years. gotta say, i'm just happy to have rushed to the scene and found him alive. getting shot over the top of a car even at 30 MPH could have been much worse. ride safe out there people.

From experience that will need
forks complete
Fender
Wheel Rim
Tyre
Bottom Tree

It is possible the frame may be damaged but as a steel frame it can be jigged and straightened DO NOT remove any parts before talking to whoever runs the jig

Went and saw him yesterday. Nurse was telling him they were gonna have to catheter him. He was not pleased.
All in all, his attitude seems pretty damned good, all things considered
Paul, does he have a laptop there? Is he allowed to have one? I assume there's wifi there...
If he doesn't hav a laptop, perhaps I can arrange something, to keep him occupied.
Let me know, if you can, Paul.
No.

Heal fast Billy.  Your 400f will be missing you.

I had rear ended a car doing 40 with my 350f back in 1980.  Forks bent, triple tree shaft offset from lower triple tree, frame OK.  These old frames are surprisingly rugged.  So hopefully the only fixes will be bolt on.  And while it is apart, you could upgrade to roller stearing bearings if you haven't already.

Bill,

Good luck with the recovery. And good luck with the driver's insurance company also. I received the same birthday present you did 5 years ago.

Dunno, but I DO know that the 500t's are a 'racing' upgrade for the 350/360 class.
No.

Good to hear he didn't get paralyzed and it's just this season that he's out.  Get well soon!  I'll keep my eyes open for a parts bike for ya.

he actually just got out of surgery because a doctor noticed that he could only wiggle his toes in one direction, and they thought he may have some paralysis. the news is good though-- they said the muscle in question appears in good condition, albeit inflamed and fatigued.

That's not good news at all.  Keep us posted.

I meet a guy in a wheel chair that rides a Goldwing.  He put his chair in the sidecar and had the controls rigged up so he could ride.  So even if the worse is at hand, there is still riding after being put in a wheel chair.

Like I said though, keep us up to speed.

We have a guy in town with simular setup. The sidecar is but inches off the ground and is open at the back so he can roll up his chair and lock off the wheels. Handle bars and controls are attached to front of sidecar. Bike is a CB750 auto and the rig is actually a neat piece of engineering.
