David Silver Spares has 550 gasket kits, and I've never had a problem with anything I've bought from him.  Not sure what you would consider a good price, but if you want a quality product, you'll have to spend the money.

But before you get another kit, have you tried re-torquing the head?

Looking for a gasket set for a rebuild obviously.  I've read to much about the Athena being mediocre and the Vesrahs being pretty good, and both are missing pieces.  I found this thread and the David Silver Spares and I wanted to know how complete and good the kit is.  The price is great and is prolly still better than the cheapest Vesrah I've found at $74 even considering shipping across the pond.

You dug deep for this one! ;D ;D

It's been so long since I rebuilt my 550 engine that I can't remember exactly what came with my gasket kit, but I don't remember anything missing that I needed, and it has held up well over the past 5 years.  If you send them an email I'm sure they'll tell you exactly what comes in it.  And don't worry about shipping charges or time.  It doesn't cost any more than domestic shipping and usually only takes a week to get here.

I am getting ready to replace the cam chain tensioner on my '77 Cb550k and have been looking at gasket kits, just got this email back from Jason at David Silver Spares after I asked who made this kit:

Type
Aftermarket Part
Part No
PFGS CB550F_K
Price
£45.00
Approx
€ 54.50 | $ 65.72
¥ 5994.19

Here is the reply:

"Hi ,
I have had this picked for me and this is made by MOTOR POWER .
Best Regards
Jason .....

...Please note that if you are ordering from outside the EU, you may be liable to pay an import duty/tax on arrival of your order. For USA, this is normally 2.5% of the value of the order plus $5 admin fee per delivery."

Forgot to ask what the kit included tho.

Just got another email after I asked what the kit included:

"Hi there,
The gasket kit covers all gaskets in the top and bottom end. It will not contain all the all of the o rings etc if needed .
All pattern gasket sets vary in extras so you will have to see if you require anything else .
Best Regards
Jason ."

Any idea why these kits don't contain the o-rings? are we supposed to reuse the old ones if they are in good shape?

I pulled the trigger on the kit from across the pond.  Ironically with the shipping and all the other fees I'll surely incur it was still cheaper than the Vesrah from here in the states.  Well see when it gets here.

You dug deep for this one! ;D ;D

Ha, yep I was doing some pretty serious searching.

Hopefully you won't have to pay any additional import fees.  In the dozens of times I've ordered from DSS I've never once been charged anything other than the regular shipping, even when I ordered a full set of 550 pipes for a friend.

Please give us an update when you get it- have also been doing a lot of searching and research on gasket kits, it would be nice to know how long it takes to get here and what else will be needed before I tear into the top end of my Cb550. Hope to do it all in one afternoon, would like to have everything ready to go, would hate to tear it apart and then have to go on a hunt for the right o-rings or missing gaskets.
