Is this the starter relay???
« on: August 31, 2007, 04:58:25 PM »
I shorted between the two and got the engine to bump over and the rear wheel spun.  That's good news, I know it's not frozen.

In the pic, I am specifically talking about the round "thing" at the R hand side, just to the left of the green wire and connector.

Bad news is I still have no kick-start (won't engage), and I also can't bump or start the moto with the starter button.  Just bought a multi-meter and am trying to follow the wiring diagram that I found on the website...

Anyone have suggestions on where to look?

Thanks!

Yeah mate, that's it, it's called a "solonoid" though, which is "old time speak" for starter relay, ha ha!

Trace the wiring from your right switch block into your headlight, from memory you need to look for a black and white wire, and a black wire to make that starter button work, but while you're there, check 'em all.

I'm crap at electrics, so I don't use a multi meter much, just a little test light, and that's gotten me by for the last 38 years of playing with old bikes, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

The Honda shop manual diagrams call them "Starter Magnetic Switch".

On it you will find two post for small wire connections.
When twelve volts is applied across these terminals, the switch energizes.

I've no clue which model bike you have.  So, I'll just give generic advice.

Some models put twelve volts on one small post and the starter button provides 12 V return on the other if the clutch or neutral switches or made.

Other models put 12V return on a post if the clutch or neutral switches or made,  And the starter button delivers 12v to the other post to activate the "Starter Magnetic Switch".

Thanks guys, I found the problem...at least for the front not getting any juice.

The entire fuse box was rusted to dust.  It was a mess.  Ugh.
