I read that chiua  chuawa  those little dogs from Mexico were originally bred by the early Indians (Maya or Inca- I forgot) for food.  Sort of a lunch-on-the-go sort of thing, I guess.  (OK- a little dark humour.  Sorry)

Anybody know if you can really order horse in some European bistros?

Always heard you could in France, but never having been to France it may be hearsay.

yes you can order horse in many european countries although, due to a law FINALLY passed by congress horses may no longer be slaughtered for food in foriegn countries. the horse that i recently lost to cancer was rescued, literally, from the killers.

Well now I need to thank Uncle E for starting this thread so you DIDN'T post that in the 'babe thread'.   ;D

Horse meat is widely available at restaurants and butchers in both France and Belgium, and I believe it's regarded as a delicacy in Kazahkstan too.

I've tried it, and it's sort of in between beef and venison in flavour terms, and quite chewy.
