Topic: My wonderful labor day weekend

Well....I got the bad front tube changed out Saturday (the one the guy in San Jose pinched when installing my new tire). Yay!!!!!!......my bike is finally running again after complete front end rebuild. Took it from Modesto to Oakdale & back with no probs........loving the lower euro bars,fork seals that actually hold oil, etc. So now I can plan on taking it to work on Tuesday (114 miles round trip). Sunday....start tearing down my Toyota Tacoma for it's annual timing belt replacement. I had already got belt ,water pump, idler pulley,tensioner pulley,tensioner through my job that came from the Toyota dealership in that area. So Sunday (yesterday),I tore it all down and installed the new water pump and pulleys. It was getting too hot to continue so I put everything away...closed the garage and went for another bike ride(YAY!!!) Got up early this morning and put the belt on and pulled the pin on the tensioner......belt had too much slop. Cranked it around a couple of times and the slop was still there and the timing marks are off. WTF?? take the belt back off and start investigating. The new belt is just ever so slightly longer than the old one so I grab the plastic bag it came in and check it out. It has 2 different dealer tags on it with 2 different numbers!! I'm like....WTF??? Then I look at the number stamped on the belt and it is different than both of those numbers!!! The clincher is when I closely examine the old belt .....the numbers on it (hard to see) are different yet!!!! WTF is going on?? Don't they have quality control anymore??? Being that its Labor Day,no place open to get the right part so I'm takin' the bike to work tomorrow (as planned anyways...YAY!!)......but I am soooooo pissed that I wasn't able to get my truck going on my days off.........anyways...the bag that the belt came in was sealed...packed with the belt,a little packet of dessicant,& a replacement sticker. It has 2 different labels on the bag(probably manufacturer & dealer tags). One tag is 13568-69095....the other is 13568-69075. The new belt is stamped13568-65020 and the old belt is stamped 13568-62050..........Hows that for quality control???........These boys are on drugs!!!!! ......Oh well.....I'm off for another bike ride!!......Mr Breeze.....out to hit the Breeze!!!!

Had a similar problem with a chain from Dennis Kirk....Had me scratching my head..when did regina chains become DID?

Moral of the story...it doesn't matter what the package says nor whats in the package..as long as the tag scans right they will hand you anything.

Your weekend sounds like most of mine.

Got back to town on Saturday afternoon after being up all night flying. Slept the rest of the day.

Got up sunday and rode the 350 to the shop. Gonna finally fix the Leaking petcock and bowls on the damn thing.

Pull the tank. Drain it. Spill gas on my shoes.

Hunt for petcock o-ring that I thought I had...Can't find it.

Install best looking used o-ring. Manages to slow gas flow to a trickle. Make a mental note to order two gaskets tuesday....

Pull carbs. Note dirt in bowls. Decide to spray them out. Discover complete dirth of carb cleaner in the shop.

Jump start Goldwing (making a mental note to ride the thing more). Go to pep boys.

Hey pep boys closed at 6 pm sharp...not 6:01. Damn I miss the mom and pop auto parts stores... Make a mental note to never shop at pepboys again.

Drive to Hi/Lo auto parts and buy carb cleaner.

Flush bowls. Rob parts outa the parts carbs. Lap in needles.

Reinstall, sync, and adjust idle.

Ride home.

       Hey, I know exactly how you all (Mr B & Tim) feel. I've had that occasion happen some myself. Gotta tell you though, my weekend didn't go as planned but if it had, I might have been worse off.

       I had to go down to my Dad's and get 3 bikes (before he forgot I was coming and might give them to my brother). I planned to get with a buddy to go get them, he had prior plans that couldn't wait (understandable). So, I had to get a trailer hitch put on my van (scheduled it and got it done) I planned to leave at 9am Saturday morn. (didn't get away til about 9:30-9:45 cause I forgot to dig out my tiedowns and had to stop by "Wally World" and pick some up) Got to "Wally World", went straight to the section with the straps (the ones I wanted were sold out & had to substitute) Finally got underway again. About half way down the way, drove around a curve noticing something different up on the left side of the road (on the shoulder) Got close enough to see a full size Chevy truck w/ a car trailer and a car laying separately from the trailer and all three were totally mangled. Took a breath and thanked God that we were a bit slow getting off that morning or my minivan & UHaul trailer could have been right in the middle of that. Thankfully no one was hurt in the wreck and we drove on. Everything went well for the rest of the trip.

Sounds like dealer guy just grabbed whatever was lying around and sold it to you. Nice guy

Have never had a problem with a Gates or Dayco belt from NAPA or wherever.

Going for a ride sounds like a good idea.

Seems we have all had bad weekends...as i told bill earlier i had lost a friend in an acident at the begining of the weekend..but found out that it was him yesterday just before it went on shift in ER...heres the messed up part...i was in ER at the time his friend and the other driver involved in the wreck were brought in. I was there in training at the time. found out there was a fatality in that accident on saturday..then as said...found out last night that it was a friend i grew up with..

My buddy and his wife came over to the Island today for a visit. He has a learners permit but no bike so I said lets go for a ride while you are here. He chose the CL350 and we had a great ride. Came back all smiles, he says to his wife...where's the dog....she says uhhhhhhhh, I don't know.  Next thing I see is my best friend carrying his dead dog down my driveway in his arms crying.
FUC!!!!!!!!!!!! someone had just run it over 30 seconds earlier.  He was completely out of his mind in grief.

Sorry to hear Outlaw & Seaweb..................my probs ain't sh!t compared to yours.Just lost my step-bro July 10.......45 years old.....healthy as all get out and had a major heart attack.........................WTF???.......I know you heard it before and it really sucks but.......life goes on.................?

unfortunitly some of us have heard it far too many times...but the one bright spot of this weekend was hearing a new life coming into this world...i was on my walkaround on sundays shift and heard the sounds of a newborn in the delivery room. That momentarly cheered me up....Though the other thing that is going to come to play is something im getting airbrushed on my interceptors fuel tank...its a bible scripture and i will list it off for those of you who read the lords book....Psalms 23 verse 4

          Hey guys, First I like to offer my condolences to Mr B. about his loss last July. It never does get easier guy. We just do the best we can and keep the memories of those who have past on.

          Derek, Only those who have pets who they are really close to, really know how heartbreaking it can be to lose them and I AM one of those people. I really feel for the loss of that dog, who was more than an animal. I still remember each and every one of the ones I had that died like that (and that died period).

          Chris, You know how I feel about your loss, it is so tragic and yet we HAVE to move on (sometimes, it is more difficult than other times, I know) That Bible verse really says a lot and is so fitting.

                 Hope the rest of the week is better for all.

daggone i feel better knowing i wasnt the only one with a crappy weekend.here`s mine.started yesterday morning,the control panel on my tv starting acting up,no remote or manual tuning,that pissed me off,tv isnt much more than a year old.so i said im going riding,tried to take the honda out,it said uh uh i aint goin today,so i put it back in the garage and took the sportster out,ran like a top.so i had a good time riding then i get back and remember i put my house keys under the honda seat,so i went to lift up the seat and realized i somehow jammed the lock thing,so i tried to pry it up,that didnt work,went to my brothers help and borrowed his sawzall and cut the latch thing off the seat,but in the process of messing with the seat i managed to pull a muscle or two in my back.shoulda went to work.

Mr B i didnt mean to sound cold with my remark about hearing it too many times..it was just the first thing that came to mind. I guess i have seen so much death in my life as it is hearing those words dont really have the same affect on me any longer. Infact hearing it over and over especially from certian people tends to infuriate me futher. Hell its happened so many times that a now ex gf had actually nicknamed me Reaper. Kinda fitting i guess...Im getting long winded but anyways Sorry to hear about your loss man...as you and many others have said..life goes on...same to you as well Derek...loosing a pet is never easy on you...depending on how long you have owned the pet prior their loss can hit just as hard as a family members..because in most cases...they are family members.

           Man Duster, sounds like you should have stayed in BED!  I can identify with pulled back muscles. Knock on wood!! I haven't had to deal with those in a while......so far. ( I whispered, just in case those pesky muscles were listening. Take care my friend and get well.

I feel your pain.  I know grief and courage and continuance.

BUT, I had great weekend.  The kid started college last week and had a tiff with the roomate by Friday.  Something about getting locked out of the room while taking a shower.

Anyway, the kid came home for good and the wife was so tickled they never knew where I was.  Three full days of playing with the bikes.

For this I have to find $10,000, after scholarships, every six months.

I wonder if I can eat at the college when the payments come due?

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Yeah....the weekend kinda sucked but taking the bike to work today made up for it. 114 mile round trip with no probs whatsoever. Got my Toyota timing belt dilema straightened out but didn't have enough steam left in me  to put it in......oh well........guess I take the bike to work again tomorrow.....bummmer hey??? (yeah...right!!!!!). Hope everyone that had the crapola weekend has a better week.

Everyday above ground is a good day.

I am sorry "bad" things happen to all of us, but having had a few things happen this summer that were very unfortunate ( and still are), I have this weird (in a good way) feeling, a certain sense of peace, that this is all happening for a reason. It has taken a long time for me to get here and I did not see it coming. Dont get me wrong I do not find joy in the sadness, but it does make the "good" things seem a bit...more dear.

I recall a phrase we used in college. We would have time set aside for all the brothers in the fraternity to have the floor, talk about whatever, good, bad, and ugly. But when we came to the end, all of the talks would end with " I am glad to be out loving all my brothers."

I am glad to be out loving all my Sohc brothers and sisters.
