Oil strainer screen question
« on: September 20, 2007, 05:20:28 AM »
1970 CB750K0 - I have watched these posts on the oil strainer screen and think I should look at this for preventative maintenance.  I doubt it was ever cleaned on this bike with 17,000 miles that I bought in July 2007.  Should I expect to replace this screen or will I just need to clean it and install a new gasket?  What sort of condition are you guys finding these screens on the older bikes?
Thanks

Mine had slightly less mileage on it (15K) when I took it out of mothballs after sitting 22 yrs! One of my to-does was to pull the oil pan and inspect the pump and screen. I found the screen very much intact. Unless it has been damaged somehow in the past, I suspect yours should be OK as well.

The Honda Direct parts fische is showing 2 different part numbers for the oil pan gasket?  One is 11398-300-306 for $3.91 and the other is 11398--300-307 for $8.22.  Any idea which one it is for a 1970 CB750KO?

Just so happens I have one here in front of me. I replaced the gasket when I pulled the pan and checked the pump and screen. I plan to pull it again this winter to change the check valve tip (mine leaks oil down to the sump when left sitting for a while). The new gasket I have here is 11398-300-306. Hope this helps. I believe I orded it through my local Honda dealer.

Oh, I found that many of the gasket part numbers are superseded. Since a gasket pattern is a gasket pattern, etc. the only thing I can think of to cause the superseding is the material seems to have changed. All the original gaskets seem to be some black material and the new ones are a greenish color. They work fine, I've replaced the pan, alt. and trans. gaskets and mounted them dry with no leaks or problems.
