Topic: reduced effect - what is it?

I am new to motorcycles, and just acquired a 1980 cb650c. In looking on the internet, I see a regular cb650c and a reduced effect cb650c. I realize that the reduced effect only has 50 HP vs 63 HP on the regular, but what exactly is the difference, or how do they get the difference, and how do I know which I have?

The main difference is that girls don't notice the reduced effect- hence the name.  Park in front of a decent cafe where you can sit outside and you'll know which one you have in about 15-20 minutes.

Here in the UK inexperienced bikers are restricted to 33bhp for two years after passing their test.  You can get any bike restricted quite simply by fitting a plate in the carb manifold(s) to comply with the law.

It's possible your 650 has such a "reducing effect" to comply with some arcane law somewhere in the world.

Uncle Ernie, I enjoyed the humor and now I am POSITIVE I have a reduced effect 650. However, the link that Robert posted had the technical info I needed. Thank you everyone for responding.
