Have you ever wondered..............
Why does it seem like this Phillips screwdriver doesn't fit?
Why do these screw heads strip so easily?

Honda does not use Phillips head screws.
Honda uses JIS (Japan Industry Standard) screws.

They aren't the same.

The right tool for the job and all that..

Lessee:

'75 Triumph - British Standard
'78 Honda - Japanese Industry Standard
'01 Triumph - metric
'02 Honda - well I thought just metric, but now I don't know...

No wonder some folks develop brand loyalty; it's cheaper on tools!

Harbor Freight also has them. Makes life easier. Now I have to by a metric Cresent wrench

Also restoring a 64 MGB with my brother. Had to buy Whitworth wrenches...

Actually I bought all the green screwdrivers in a fifteen pack set plus two for $58. They didn't give me a shipping charge.

I had to. I have only one screwdriver that I trust with the bad stuff, and it takes forever to look for it.

Somebody from Ames Supply Company called and admitted they are selling products that don't exist. Oh well. There was a day when that practice was fraud.

Anyway, I have three or four hundred screwdrivers and only one I trust on Japanese cross hair. It's:
Craftsman
#2 Phillips USA
9-41295 B WF

So that's why I stripped all the screw heads thirty years ago. It's not my fault. Thanks for saving the shrink fees.

Wow, that was driving me crazy.

I just thought they were using fatty screwdrivers back in the early 70's. The only time I dislike a philips head screw is when I dont have the correct size screwdriver.

I've got several screwdrivers specifically for bikes that I've re-ground the tips on to work right, No idea how many times I searched for a driver that fit the screws right till I did that.

Now I find they make the 'right' ones after all!

ALLEN HEAD RULES!!!!!......just use the right driver.........they are made in standard or metric....just like sockets. If there is crud in there....clean it out before reefing on it .

Almost all of the tools including the bag from the 750 tool kit are still available from Honda and cheap. I think the only exception is the wrench for the rear axle nut. You can put a brand new tool kit together for ~$20US. I just did this through Service Honda. Think i'll start selling NOS sandcast tool kits on EBay for $100

I'd like to find a JIS set that has a big-ass one similar to like a phillips #3 I think. That set of four largest is only comperable to a Phillips #2.

Anyone else have a source?

The link m00ntan posted (above) for McMaster Carr goes up to #4. The link below is a nice set that goes up to #3 but the site also offers JIS bits for a drill.

The older Craftsman blue handle #3 screwdriver fits the 750 clutck cover scres really well and maybe the points cover..
