77F2 WH Bio(update) what's she worth?
« on: August 16, 2007, 10:44:17 AM »
I threw money down on a 82 Suzi 1100 GLZ last night and will have to let the Honda go.

What would be a fair price to let the bike go for? I have a tad over a grand in parts...

This was my turd when I first got it

I rescued her from many years of abandonment

This is her first day at her new home

These are some current pics---I am far from done, but I put a little love in here and there when time and what little money allows.

I was given this thing last year because the guy who took it on, his son went off to serve in the Army. It was meant to be a father/son project and well that went out the window when the boy left. The PO did have the carbs professionally cleaned, but the peoples didn’t put the needle on the third groove, so he could never get the bike to get off of idle. Originally he wanted to charge me the 300 dollars which is what it cost him to have the rack of carbs cleaned, this was in 04 and by the time 05 rolled around, he purchased a new Road King Classic and said, look I know you have a passion for bringing things back into working condition, so tell ya what, you come pick her up and she’s yours for free. Bingo--- I can’t pass up free, plus I have wanted a bike for a long time. So, needless to say, I brought this old girl home in the back of my Dad’s pick up and started to work on her. With me being foreign to bikes, I decided to keep things stock so that I would have an easier time tuning the bike.

I installed new NOS Honda coils and boots,
NGK plugs
Honda P&C plate
NOS rear master cyl and rebuilt the caliper
Oil filter(s)
New chain stayed with 630 o-ring and new sprockets
Set the valves clearances per the book until I read Honda man’s explanation of the F head and went back and re adjusted the ex valves.
Installed all new wheel bearings All Balls--- I added my own mobil one synthetic grease and reinstalled the dust shields
New tires stock size, new tubes, mounted myself and took them to get balanced--- again I would have went wider in the rear but am new to bikes
Used right rear signal housing and lens
Went halves on a synch kit with my pop--- me bringing this bike back to life inspired him to get his 82 Suzi GS1100GLZ over to my house so I could bring it back to life.
In between I kept polishing here and there, painted header and muffler tip, polished a bunch of screws, polished the foot peg aluminum brackets and yet I still have a bunch more to go.
New blinker flasher
Cut a tad off of the rear springs so that my feet would be close to flat on the ground and yet so the springs would not be loose if the shock was fully extended.
Adjusted voltage regulator
I have put about 700 miles on her since I got her and she runs great. She does smoke like a steam engine for the first 5 mins but once it is warmed up it is fine. Darn F head. I plan to pull the engine on it this winter and remove the head and repair what needs repairing. I also plan to look into the carbs, I am not sure if they have been properly jetted but the bike screams as it is so I don’t feel like messing with it. On another note, she is at about 16500 miles, so I don’t think I will get into the bottom end just yet. I do plan to install an oil pressure gauge to monitor how the clearances are stacking up on the big end of things. Maybe I will throw a cam chain and inspect the adj while I am at it.

I'd like to know who the manufacturer of the exhaust system is on my bike. I also would like to know what those semi-ape hanger bars came off of.

Anyone has any insight, please let me know. I am planning on down downsizing the bars to stockers, but I do admit the current set up is comfortable.

I asked this on the other post, so you read it twice bear with me. Is it true that Honda no longer makes side covers? I saw some posts regarding the issue and some Ebay ones to go with, but was curious if any F guys had any personal experience.

I really wouldnt mind having her repainted--- I would like to reinstall the stripe--so if you know of a good local for factory colored paint and decals, please let me know.

Hope you all have enjoyed how it came to be...Good luck and safe riding to you all.

I have no idea who makes it, it came with the bike. I have yet to find one like it. I was wondering if anyone on here might know of where it originated.

go to www.afegraphics.com and get their phone #, then call them and ask about decals.  Honda made them stop selling them over the web, but I believe if you call, they'll talk.  For paint, Don Dirtbike, see the paint FAQ.  That's who I used.  I got side covers from DSS, but just saw a post with an ebay address, and believe they are the same as the pattern parts side covers.

One of my favorite F models. The 77-78 SS-F motor although much like a K model, had a couple extra HP so a few engine bits are different.

Tank Stripes, for your 77 F.
www.afegraphics.com definitely has the stripes. They have another site just for the Honda stuff.
Just ask them.
I've tried reproductiondecals a few times but they didn't have near the number of F and K models AFE Graphics offers. Plus the customer service from AFE to me seemed way better to me.
They have been doing great work for us CBer's way longer too, going back to before the world wide web was around.
Anyway, I don't see any Honda decals at either site.
So how can you know if Honda put a stop to either firm?
You can't find Honda replica badges at the producer's site either. www.badgereplicas.com.au
But yet you can find them all over the place.
So what is going on?
Is Honda really going on a tear with protective measures?
What's next, Honda? Brake pads, mirrors, exhausts and the of the parts out there for classic bikes?
Do they or don't they appreciate the restoration process?
Maybe they think I'll spend my money on a 2008 V twin if I can't fix up my old bike?
It's too late Honda... The Gene is out of the bottle.
I'll buy and fix up what I want and find a way to do it.
Call it Human Nature!!

I just recently ordered a CB350 decal set from http://www.sunrisegraphics.co.uk/ in England. They have a great reputation this side of the pond, being the one the people from Motorcycle Mechanics magazine buy for their restorations. Haven't arrived yet so I can't tell first hand. I emailed first Reproduction Decals but they told me they didn't have for the CB350.

A few months ago I dealt with them -Reproductions Decals- in order to get some decals for Sanglas -spanish made- bikes, and I sent them some scans. They were very professionals and got very involved. Unfortunately, the president of the Sanglas club decided to order them locally.

Nice job with the bike. The apehangers should be the first thing to go.

Looks great. I'm not sure what the market will bring you for it. Follow other sales on EBay as a guide. Possibly $2K+. One of the guys is trying to get a group buy together for F side covers from LPM. Do a search for it and maybe we can get a better price. Only downside is I'm sure they would need to be painted.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Here in Portland Maine you would have a hard time getting $1,000 for it.

But that's just the market here.   It's ripe for the picking.  There are quite a few people that sell off bikes for much less than they're worth.  It is just expected.

Here's a great example... --->  http://maine.craigslist.org/mcy/413762233.html

I hope you get what you need out of it.

I am the guy trying to get the group buy together. I have had some responses that I will post on the proper thread from the various manufactures.

The Chicagoland market is a goofy one to say the least. You see bikes that are junk go for prices that are unrealistic and then you see some gems, but they sell fast like in less than a day of being posted.

I was going to say 1200 firm for the bike. I don't want to BS around and it's what I got into it. For a bike that just about has most stuff done to it for reliability and will run with new dodge vipers... how can you get that for 1200 dollars? Last mpg check was 51 cruising at around 70. I'd like to see it go to a good home...another sohc enthusiast and not to some punk that will tear it up.

I just brought my new-used bike home tonight ( Two tone blue pearl 82' Suzi GS1100GLZ)... she too will get the cleaning treatment to bring it more to my liking, but I finally found the bike that I was after for over two years and this one has just 17000 miles on it.  The SOHC was a great learning experience, but being a newly married guy with lots and lots of bills, I am lucky enough to have a bike. IF I had the spare money, I would hang on to it, it's a dam_n good bike, one that I would not hesitate to ride 500 miles in one leg.

If you're still looking for stock bars, I have a set from a 75 750F that I removed from my old bike.  Shoot me an email if you're interested.  They're in good shape, predrilled for wires, etc.

changingleafs AT gmail DOT com

Jason

ps. I'm in Salt Lake City, but have no problem shipping them if you pay for it.
