I'll third the nomination.  Or do we just need a second?  Anyway it's going to be hard to choose.  Those are two great looking bikes.

I'll second bwaller's 500.  By gosh, that's got to be one of the best bikes I've ever seen here.  And it is not just skin deep.  He's got real slick, worthwhile mods on that thing, like the oil passage bypass.

Perhaps he would care to share a list of mods?

It has a modern, sport bike look, which I ordinarily don't care for at all. However, his is very different. I think because the engine, etc. isn't hidden under a ton of plastic. I like it, very nice! Great lines!

You know, looking over this month's nominations, we've really got one hell of a competition going on!  These are all REALLY BEAUTIFUL BIKES, with very tasteful modifications, and good looks.

Good luck to each of you.  If you were all nominated in different months, I'd cast a ballot for each of you.

Wow this is really cool, I accept your nomination. Truly an honor to be included with all these other great bikes.

I built the thing for my wife with several thoughts in mind.
1) Lower it because she is 5'2" (later model 404 forks, 18" front rim, 80 section tires, seat)
2) Reduce the weight to as close as possible to her 400F. (the 550 ended up 395lbs)
3) Set up ergonomics to resemble the 400F (handlebar - seat - footpeg distance)
4) Increase engine power but with good low & midrange.

I'm using 400F gauges, modified headlight bracket, footpeg brackets, rear brake pedal, chainguard and handlebars.

Also 600F3 footpegs, handlebars switches so the choke lever is on the left switch.
VF500F Interceptor front fender, lower fairing
VF750F Interceptor seat, rear fender, tail section
Buell flyscreen and signal lights
Aluminum rims with SS spokes
Interconnected air forks and progressive wound springs with fork brace
3 ohm Dyna coils wired direct with a relay & electronic ignition
Oregon cycle regulator/rectifier unit
520 O-ring chain and aluminum rear sprocket
Direct wired headilight with relays (what a bloody difference!)
Works performance rear shocks
Aluminum instrument bracket and console/ led idiot lights, rear brake stay, muffler hanger
Steering damper

Engine mods include 61mm pistons (swaintech skirt & dome coating) gives 592cc
WebCam camshaft, aftermarket valve springs and cylinder head work.
Single large K&N feeding stock intake plenum and PD 46a's
Complete kickstart removed
External oil lines and oil cooler

One of the things I'm proud of is the pipe. I bought a Mac header (that has a porcelan like finish) on E-bay, cut it off at the collector, and used thinwall SS pipe from a swimming pool ladder cut & fit for ground clearance back to a GSXR muffler. Total cost $185.00. It's quiet but growls like a mini GSXR!

It makes excellent power with a very usuable powerband, suspends superbly, and handles like it's on rails. My wife is quite pleased. It was either proceed with this project or buy her an SV650, a no-brainer. Most of the donor parts bikes I had here.

Thanks again for noticing.

Dude, that thing looks great.  Heck of a lot of mods.  I couldn't stop laughing when I saw the bit about the swimming pool ladder.  That's genius.  Well done overall.  Everything is so smooth and integrated I'd never figure out what the heck it really is.  My hat's off to you.  For me, this is what bike of the month is all about.  I'm not much of a purist.  I definitely appreciate a fully restored bike but I love a well thought out modified bike.  Subtle mods are what makes a bike.

I agree on the tough choice bit. :o We all know that there are just so many outstanding bikes on this forum, it is just unreal! It really amazes me about the quality of the work on these bikes! 8) We've got amazing looking bikes that would fit nearly every category  imaginable!  And yet ever so often, just when you think you've seen it all, a bike like bwaller's comes out to be seen! Truly a look of "Excellence" all right.

And thanks BTW, I've been wondering what the more modern Honda switchgear would look like on these old 550s, because I don't like the stock ones :(
