Creepy Website of the Day...
« on: September 06, 2007, 06:15:10 PM »
Perhaps Evar!!!!

Hey, I just post this stuff. Y’all can make up your own minds. I don't even know if it's real or not.

http://www.marryourdaughter.com/

From their “About us” page:

Quote

”Marry Our Daughter is an introduction service assisting those following the Biblical tradition of arranging marriages for their Daughters.”

From their FAQ page:

Quote

Q: IS YOUR SERVICE LEGAL?
A: Absolutely. Within the United States girls can marry as young as 13 years old with parental permission, and the Bride Price is a custom of long standing, mentioned many times in the Bible, and as such is a protected religious practice. Click HERE for a listing of the age limits and legal requirements in various states. Click HERE for what the Bible says on Bride Price.

Q: WHAT IS A BRIDE PRICE?
A: The bride price is an ancient custom, somewhat like a dowry. A man wishing to marry a woman would offer her family a Bride Price in cash or kind, or sometimes offer to work for their family.

From the “This month’s testimonials” page:

Quote

At first we were worried that Janine was too young to get married, but then her new husband bought her a house and a car and jewelry and the money we got let us buy a house for ourselves. Getting out of the trailer park at our age was the best thing that ever happened to us, and it’s all thanks to Marry Our Daughter!"

—Mr. Jack M.

“I was SO scared getting married so young, but my husband is an okay guy and I am SO proud that because of me my parents were able to get their first brand-new car and take the trip they always wanted to. I couldn’t have done it without your site!"

—Katrina K., married at 14

“Our 15 year old daughter Mary wasn’t very popular and did nothing but mope around the house bringing everybody down, so we decided to marry her off through your site. Now our house is a lot cheerier and we love our new swimming pool and Jaccuzi! We’ve told our youngest that when she turns 15 we’re going to marry her off too!"

—Mrs. James P.

There's plenty more at the site, including a number of daughters for sale eligible for marriage.  :o

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

Reminds me of the restaurant scene in "The Blues Brothers" where Jake says to the man at the next table, "How much for the leetle girl"? "How much for the women?"  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I think this is a joke site. The "getting us out of the trailer park" bit CAN'T be serious.

I agree, the write-ups are all in the same style and appear to be written by the same person even when they are apparently composed by different posters. They are also all too good looking.

This site was just registered in July (under a proxy, so you can't track down the owners).

Can't realistically have that many "satisfied customers" already.

Hoax.

That's exactly what was going through my mind Terry.

Funny how things change.  My grandma was married at 13 in the 1930's(in Ohio, so don't think it's a Southern thing, anyway that's just Alabama ;)).  A friend of mine's mom started dating his dad when she was 13 and he was 16, that would have been in the 1950's.

I think in short that society has changed and childhood has extended into peoples' early twenties.  I think it has to do with kids being dependent on their parents through college.

Edited to add:  I do think it's creepy.  I hope it's a joke.

This is Soooo wrong! My daughter just got married and I had to PAY $2000 for the wedding! If only I had seen this site earlier I could have pocketed some serious cash.  AS IF! Who in their right mind is going to pay $27,500 to marry anyone's daughter when there are so many free one to be had?

Hey Aaron, I reckon you got off cheap mate, a co-workers friend got married in March, cost her father 30,000 bucks for the wedding, and now she's left him and moved back in with Mom and Dad! I bet Dad's happy...............  :D

At 79, I can't afford $30,000 but I can offer a second hand bar of soap and a used stick of chewing gum for ANY ONE of them.

Ha ha, and being a Pom, that bar of soap wouldn't have done much work mate! :D
