Depends on what you mean by refurbish and how bad are they; is that like fixing the rot-holes?
You can braze patches on (and it looks junky and good for not forever)
You can shove-in steel wool mixed w/ JB Weld in the holes then dab on silver paint (and looks really crappy but costs $7)
You can buy used pipes on ebay around $50-100 each (and get sniped)

Or do you mean simply super-cleaning them?
Remove them and use EZ-OFF oven cleaner to de-yuckify them up better than anything (wear hd rubber gloves and work upwind)
Followed by Mothers Wire Wheel and Chrome Cleaner and 000 steel wool (hydroflouric acid so wear gloves again)
Then shine them up w/ 000 steel wool and Mothers aluminum polish

I have Jet Hot coated mufflers and headers on my Guzzi Lario.  They did an awesome job (I now have to get the bike looking as good as its Satin Black exhaust!).  The finish is holding up extremely well after 3 years - although the bike does live in a heated garage.  However, 5 min after riding, the pipes are just warm to the touch, so there is not really a chance for massive condensation to form.

Jet Hot is great, because it coats both the inside and outside of the headers and Cans, so corrosion is not really a worry.  Also, they have some sort of cleaning process that cleans out the inside of the

736 - what about repairing the rot holes and then jet coating them?  Would a muffler repair shop be the right person to go to?

Thanks,

Gersh

Jet-coating is actualy ceramic coating w/ a polished aluminum finish (or satin black). It looks like polished aluminum and is very durable and beautiful (The engine cover sets I sell use this process). Pipe patch repairs will still be obvious, and coating won't get inside the enclosed mufflers. And cost of welding, 2 way shipping, coating, about same as a BRAND NEW PIPE.

unless you know somone who will weld it for free, then just grind and coat it yourself

Yea I shoulda been a little more clear. What I'm looking for is someone who will take the pipes strip them down, weld, grind and fix any deviations. I can have them re-chromed easy enough. I did find someone in Australia who quoted around 300 aus. (whatever that is is U.S currency), but I'm guessing shipping from Ma. would be 3 or 4 times that alone. I found a set on ebay for around $1500.00, I don't want to do a hack job but I can't afford that kind of price range. Thanks for the answers, keep 'em coming.

I can appreciate your going for that all-stock look, but if yours are to the point where you're going to have to get them patched/welded/chromed/yadda yadda yadda, I think you'd be better off either buying completely new pipes or finding someone with stock pipes in slightly better condition.

I'm sure that if you looked around/waited a bit you could find a user on here or ebay who's got a set lying around in an old parts pile you could pick up for cheap and just have rechromed. It would no doubt save you alot of money/hassle/time and come out looking better.
