1971 - Kwaka Mach 111 being a young apprentice mechanic I decided to do my own tune up

plugs, points (no cdi) etc - easy, feeling proud, I attacked the timing & stuffed it up.

Finally got it running - 7grand on the tacho, drop the clutch and......go backwards

Wait a minute... How is that possible? If the engine is running backwards with a stock camshaft, the intake/exhaust strokes would be reversed as well; the piston would be going down with the exhaust valve open and up with the intake valve open, thus getting no fuel into the engine.

There's no cam on a Mach III - it's a 2 stroke. For more info on them check out

  I saw a guy on a dirt bike do this, he had lined up for a hillclimb,kicksarted the bike, revved it up,dropped the clutch and away he went backwards. It was funny from where I stood. Dannie
