Side cover emblems & tool kits, etc still available!!
« on: September 12, 2007, 09:48:27 AM »
I am in the process of placing multiple large orders of replacement parts for the eventual full ground up restore of my 75 750F. In researching parts availability I have found that BikeBandit.com's parts fiche has a nice schematic identical to the Honda fiche, shows what is still available or discontinued, but uses their own part number. I printed their parts lists and went to ServiceHonda.com. This site uses what I believe is the actual Honda fiche and you can cross reference parts, find what other bikes your part may be used on, etc. More complicated but the most useful I've found (great guys too!) once you understand how to use it. From their fiche I got the actual Honda part number and entered this seperately on their order form. Every item I have ordered so far that Bike bandit shows as available is still available so this system seems to work. PLUS Service Honda gives a 20% to 30% off MSRP!! I will only use EBay for a truely discontinued part. I have seen many "discontinued" parts on EBay that are still available and much cheaper through Service Honda. Check first!!

Back to my topic. I don't know you if you K guys can get your side cover emblems but there were 9 75/76/77 750F side cover emblems available for $23.55 each. Now there may only be 5 left since I got 4. As far as tool kits which have been going for amazing prices on EBay, you can get all the tools and bag seperately except the wrench for the rear axle nut for $15.41. Nice shiny new tool kit. Some of these items will ship seperately from different Honda warehouses. Most of these items are not in stock but they pull from Honda and generally have them in a few days. A little research goes a long way.

I already new about the K emblems, but I was not willing to pay 30 bucks each. It is as simple as placing your order in the Honda dealer, and then buy in eBay whatever is not available. Even then, some parts become available a few months later, so what I normally do is to keep aside the part numbers of the things that Honda doesn't serve, and order them again in the next batch -obviously when it's a matter of cosmetic parts or replacing old-but-in-order with new.

many items shown on the parts fiche as available are not once you actually try to order them.

Thanks for the valuable resource, Rxman :)  I've been very happy with servicehonda so far and knowing what's actually available can save a few days/emails on some parts ;) ;D

cmsnl.com is another great online resource. Their parts fiche lists parts as "not available" and shows superceded part #'s as well. Not sure if it's entirely accurate, but worth a look. Here's the fiche for your bike :)

Well there are only TWO emblems now. I had one damaged by an EXTREMLY close call by a Semi Truck...literally sucked the side cover off the bike.
Thanks for the info RXman...the folks at service Honda were very pleasant and my emblems will be shipped Friday!
Now...where do I find a Left hand side cover for a K7????
Mine could be repaired ...but would rather have a new one if possible.
Oh...by the way...Service also has the chrome points covers....new and cheaper than I've seen on Ebay for used ones...not counting the shipping!

I just placed my 2nd order with Service Honda in 2 days using the method I described. I ordered multiple quantities on 20 items and they are all invoiced. The first order had 34 items. Not one item discontinued. This is why I used Bike Bandit's site to determine the status of the item at Honda first. They also order most of the stuff for you from Honda when you place your order. Try it - you'll like it.

Sean - thanks for the link. Another reputable source especially for those of you that deal in pounds (the $$ kind  :D).

You're very welcome. Glad I can help. Try LPMreplicaparts.com for side covers - K or F.

I've got them called up here now...
Do you know if they have the proper tabs to snap on or do you have to make some sort of mounting???

Yes i was amazed at what my local Honda dealer can find. He is one of the few that will take the time and trouble. Prices are equal to or less than ebay and I know i am getting a new part. No surprises.

One of our guys has talked about doing a group buy for the F's. Some of the guys that have purchased from them say the quality is good and the material they use to make these is better-more flexible. I have no personal experience but intend on joining a group buy. They are identical to original and much less expensive.
