Maybe someone in your group could talk to his wife. She may have insider information about how he feels about riding, and what he would want/accept as far as help with his bike.

Very good suggestion. If it were me, my wife would know.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Good idea, all of us will eventually realize our riding days are over and for some it will be a sad day, a concrete milestone that reminds us of our mortality. No doubt Mr. Dixon has thought about this, as most of us 30 years younger already have, and it is possible that the gearbox story is a device he has used to allow himself to retire from the group rides with dignity.

Talking to his wife I think might be a very good option unless she wants him to quit!
On a side note, I wonder how many 80+year olds can outride ed. I say we find one and when he gets beat, he hangs up his keys as he is more of a danger.Otherwise, he is just wrong and cant admit it.

Wow!  Still trying to instigate.  Keep on trying Eldar.  You are quite transparent to everyone.

Funny how if I am so transparent that you are the one catching all the flak and keep arguing with everyone. But yep you're  right, I am the transparent one.

Now why don't you put down the crack pipe and come back to reality cause I think you are getting lost even in your world.

When driving (operating any vehicle ) scares you enough you quit. My grandparents did my parents did and I will. Who besides myself has made the commitment to be cabby to elder family members? If laws were in place that hindered people from going where they wished. Who is in place to get them there? Honor the man and the club who cares for him. I'd be damn proud to have a group of people care so much for me. Maybe he is using it as an excuse to stop being an ooperator but I'm pretty sure he still wants to be involved as I most certainly would. Talking with his wife has merit but why not be honest and upfront with him? See what he wants and how he feels. You might want to joke with him over a few bears first but hey he's not dead! Show me respect and you will have mine. Don't and suffer my Ire!

ed, your blanket statement about the man being "really way too old to be driving or riding" is what touched a nerve with me. Statistically older people might have more accidents but that doesn't mean everyone over 65 (or any age) is a poor driver. That is tantamount to saying that all fat people are jolly, or blondes are stupid, or chaps wearers are gay (even if they all look like it ;) ), or any racial slurs. You get the idea (I hope).

Thank you.  Everyone I've known named Ed has had a dope problem and was trying to steal from me.  But I still try not to prejudge.

Send a T-shirt, a pin and a letter of the club's appreciation of his accomplishment.  Send a second letter offering to source repair service.  Let Dave decide which to keep.

BTW:  Is he a member?  Who is the oldest member?

Peace out, fellas.  I've wasted enough time here trying to explain what is patently obvious to people who'd prefer to delude themselves.

Canadian brains do not age as fast. They are only thawed out for about 6 months out of a year! :D
But better frozen than bakED like some. ;)

lol...well maybe in the old days! Ever since Global warming has taken hold it hardly drops below freezing in the Toronto area and we sure don't get snow like we used to...hell pretty soon our riding season will rival Terry's down under! Actually believe it or not I know a guy who basically rides year round. Unless there is fresh snow on the ground or the temp is below -5 celcius he rides. It is his only form of transport (other than public) and lives downtown where we really don't get much...so he maybe misses a few months (total) at most a year...

7 pages of wasted bandwidth here.  A moderator should consider closing this thread.  Pointless hijacking and bickering like this doesn't belong on our forums.  It's definitely not typical of our group and actually a little embarrasing.  I'd hate to have a prospective member read through this garbage and decide we're not the type of group he/she (young or old) would want to belong to.

Ya, but 7 pages?  More suitable to the open form section.

I will say I've made a comment or two  ::)  after having a beer or two  ::) that I probably should have kept to myself in the tech and other forums.  Nobody's perfect but this has gotten a little ridiculous.

Doesn't it always. Something like this would probably be more at home in the open forum though. Oh well, such is human nature.

Oh yes, of course!  I didn't even realize this was in the SOHC/4 section.  It most definitely belongs in the open section, as it has nothing whatsoever to do with SOHC4 motorcycles.

That may be but it does liven things up some and prevents us from looking like a bunch of prudes.
