Bigger tires, searched!
« on: September 11, 2007, 08:48:41 PM »
Im thinking of running a 130/90 16 or a 5.10 rear tire. Any problems with running one on a 76 750K?

Do an archive search - the topic of wide tires has been covered many times - even some threads with pics!

Key in "wide tire" for 10 pages of it.....

cheers

Don't know about the 76 750k, but I'm running a 5.10- 16 on my 78 750k and I could probably put a 6" wide tire on and clear everything. Some one on here just swapped there rear swing arm with a 78 k arm for that same reason, I just don't remember whom it was.

Gregimotis was showing me that a wider tire can be a problem on the F model 750.  I have a 130 on my K8, and it certainly could have taken a 140.

Like Andy said, there has been a lot of detailed discussion on this.  It'll all be archived.

If I am correct the 77/78K bikes can take a wider tire than the earlier bikes. The stock rim is wider. The swingarm is also wider I think.

None of our bikes come stock with a 16" rim so what works and what doesn't work on a stock size spoke 750 rear rim (18" till 76, 17" 77,78) doesn't necessarily correlate with tires fitted to 16" aftermarket rim (assuming you actually meant to say 16").  A 130-90-16 tire will be of smaller diameter than a 130 90 on a 17 so it will not go as deep into the "V" of the swingarm and will clear more easily. . . . My 78K takes a 130 90 17 tire nicely with a bit of room to spare but the 140 width tire would a bit too wide for the stock rim width.  Don't know about the earlier bikes for sure but it seems that their swingarms were shorter putting the tire deeper into the "V" and thus being more limited in space for a larger width tire.

  I ran a 130/90-17 off a 81 CB 750 on my 70 CB 750 with no clearance problems. Dannie
