I posted an ad on our company classifieds a while back when I was looking for an older Honda CB. Of course since then I've found my 1979 CB650 that I have grown to love. Then I get this email yesterday from a guy that works at one of our plants in Georgia and he has a 1981 Honda CB750 and here is what he wrote:
"I saw your posting and thought I would tell you about my bike. I have a 1981 Honda CB750F (super sport). I have somewhat gone through it about 4 years ago. I put new tires, new battery, new valve cover gasket, rebuilt the brakes (master cylinders, brake calipers etc), replaced the fork dust covers, new stator, put new brushes on the starter, and it has a new starter solenoid. There are some other minor things I did as well. It has less than 300 miles on it since I did all that work. It still needs some work on the carburetors, but it will start and run. I wish I had more time to work on it, I think the carburetor issue would work itself out if it was ridden, but it would be good to take them down again. I will let it go for $500."
I have attached some pictures. I pretty much think it's a no-brainer, but I'm not familiar with these bikes and wanted to get you guy's opinions. It's not a SOHC, but it looks like a fun bike to play around with for only $500. And he is going to even meet me halfway in Atlanta, so I only have to drive about 2 hours. What do you guys think? I've already committed to buy it at this point, so it's kind of moot, but I just wanted some confirmation or maybe some warning of what to watch out for with this particular bike. Thanks in advance for any advice or comments.
