I couldn't find anything on it when I googled it but an Irish guy recorded somewhere close to 190mph in the late 70s early 80s.

With gearing and great aero, certainly possible.

I just don’t think the 750 engine has enough torque to pull high enough gearing to get 200mph. Esp. in Bonneville were carbonated bikes run 20/30 mph slower than sea level.

Now maybe with a turbo/super, high compression and as a streamliner. But it's not anywere near a cb750 at that point.

With gearing and great aero, certainly possible.

Like Mark says, with great aerodynamics a CB750 engined projectile would easily exceed 200mph.

Let me give you an example of low power motors (compared with todays) that have reached unbelievable speeds.

The outright world motorcycle landspeed record in 1956 was 211.400mph with just 500cc of NSU power.
The 350cc record was 189.5mph, the 125cc record was 150mph, the 100cc record was 138mph and last but not least was the 50cc record.
This motorcycle clocked an amazing 121.7 mph with just 12.8bhp, testament to its superb aerodynamics.

Hey Dan, did you notice how those NSU people stayed away from the 175cc class ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm not sure if all their bikes were supercharged but the smaller three definitely were.

The supercharger that they used, when turned inside out became the Wankel rotary motor as perfected today by Mazda. :o :o :o

Ummm.  I will never have big enough balls to run my bike at Bonnie or anywhere near 200mph even if my bike can do it.
I'll run the bike on the track in the 10s @ 130 to 135mph.

You are too kind Sam.  But my bike is too heavy to pull those figures at the 1/8 mile.  I only weigh 160lbs.  My bike is close to stock minus 25lbs.

No I did not either.   ;)  But I did do "The Ton" on my CB650 last Saturday night on the interstate, just to say I'm a member of the "Ton Up" club.  It got there pretty easy I might add and seemed to have quite a bit left over.

Oh...  Wait a minute...  You're talking about AN Irish guy, not THE Irishguy...   :P

Nevermind...

Yeah... wait until you've done 135 a bunch of times and it becomes old hat. You'll want more... ;D

So true... after I ran 100+ a few times I needed more, that is why I have the new engine.

Rode my 73 there this year.. about 950 miles. My buddy rode his 78 750 (had it since new). I cant say I really saw any others there except the Williams Machine 750 A with sidecar.. the guy rides it from his wheelchair and runs the streamliner too!!

I am planning to race there next year in sidecar class and probably solo as well.

Got a good feel for what I need  to bring there. A couple of local guys here ran as well, but on other bikes. One ran 176 on a fairly stock 06 ZX10.. he is trying for the 200 at a dry lake in Nov (will gear it up and use NOS)

It was great fun, & easy to get hooked, my aging engine had a few scary noises but did make the trip, its last road trip (that bike had not done one in about20 plus years) it packed it in a few hrs after I got back :'(...25 years on a built engine...

Lost quite a few CB 750's along the way
