Best way to lower a 350 fork
« on: September 13, 2007, 11:23:59 AM »
i want to drop the bike an inch or two, and plan on getting a set of shorty shocks for the rear.  Other than sliding the forks up, how do I lower the front?

Cut off however much you want off the top of the forks, re-thread the inside edges so the fork caps will screw back in, and either cut down the springs to fit or find shorter ones to replace them with.  If you cut your stock springs it will increase the spring rate making them stiffer.

Or you could find a smaller diameter wheel that will work on your bike, or lace up a smaller diameter rim to your stock hub.

If I were you, I'd stick with pushing the forks up in the triple trees.

Talk to Greg (ohiocaferacer) of ohiocaferacers.com He lowered the front of his CB500K by going internally and modifying the forks. You can slide the fork tubes up in the trees but, unless you use clip on bars, you might have a problem trying to do that. I wouldn't go cutting the springs myself but, I have heard some say that they did that. Personally, I would talk to Greg first. Short shocks are a way to lower the rear, some folks have used lowering blocks but I've heard lots of talk against that. Lots of luck with your quest to lower it though. ;)

You can internally lower it, or just do the slide it thru the top tree route (like I did on my CB450 --->)
